What kind of paint does airsoft manufactures use? i tried to repaint my guns with paints like krylon and tamiya but they came off like egg shells with a little scratch of nails... The original paints on my gun (Tanaka kar98) are very thin black layer.

Hmmmm I use automotive primer made for plastic of metal surfaces. That stuff will bond liek grim death. Then I actually use water based painted a mix up, blued steel finishes, and different shades of gun metal/ pakarized finishes. I then spray that down and give it a nice black wash to darken things up a little bit. I then seal it with a satin finish made for outdoor furnature.
The finished paint job is very durable and will be hard to scratch off.
That should work. Everything you need can be found at menards, home depot, or lowes. The water based paints are from an art store.

Yeah you can do it, deffinatly. Here is an even easier way to do it. Spray down automotive paint and then simply find an already mixed color that is similar to the color you want to paint the gun. Then you can do the black wash at the end. This will eliminate the "make your own paint color" portion and is quite easy for a beginner to do.

The water paint is what artists use for their projects.
The satin finish actually comes in a spray can you can buy at menards, home deopt, or lowes, just like the automotive primer and the close to gun metal color that you want to use. Simply spray it on in layers till you get the finish you want.
