Since the post records will show that not only has no one posted, but no one has VISITED the recruitment page since sometime in like 2006, and because I'm only really going to be able to recruit local guys, I thought I'd drop a note in here
I'm forming an Irish Guards unit. The IG's used british gear and with the exception of insignia were no different from the other Guards regiments. All of the Guards regiments are the men in red coats with the bearskin hats you see in photos of Buckingham Palace and such (the guys who don't move). However, they have been in just about every military campaign since their formation
The Irish Guards were formed in 1913 and has remained an important part of the British Military since.
During WWII, 3 Battalions were formed. Early in the war, 1st and 2nd Battalions were heavily involved in special operations to evacuate the Dutch Royal Family and to keep the Germans from having strong standing in Norway. The 3rd Battalion was short one of the 4 necissary companies required to be a "combat ready" unit and remained in the UK as a Training battalion which supplied replacements to the other 2 Battalion.
Finally, during the North Africa Campaign, 1st Battalion was nearly wiped out. The few remaining components returned to England, shattered. With the disolution of one regiment of the Scot Guards, the Irish Guards received a 4th company of Scots known as Company X. And was put into service. The unit became lorried (trucked) infantry and the 2nd Battalion became tanks
3rd Battalion rolled across NW France after D-Day and helped push into Germany North of the American lines.
I hope to portray the brave 3rd Bat Irish Guards and I hope you will join me in this effort. For more details on equipment and history PM me.
