You can see the exhaustion in the faces of the participants and cadre. It was an incredibly intense and action filled three days. Not all graduated but those who did have much to be proud of. The instructors were all Ranger or sniper or RECONDO school graduates so the course work was spot on and the activities and simulated patrols were outstanding. The students exceeded my expectations and flew in from all over the country to attend. We will hold this event again. Interestingly all of the participants (including both graduates and non graduates say they want to come back.) We'll shift some new content and missions particulars to keep it interesting.
The Jeep is technically not a Jeep but a M151 built by AM General and was used during and immediately after the Vietnam war. It was replaced by the HUMVEE. The owner is a retired 1st SGT who served as the Course NCOIC and supported the course wonderfully. I literally met him there and we have become fast friends.
Helmutt pulled out all the stops on this event and it was awesome. The best I have ever been affiliated with.

2ndBat, you should do a Guerilla training school. That'd be amazing, then you could have the Recondo graduates face the Guerilla graduates.

Unfortunately not all the weapons were 100% authentic but we did the best we could. Probably 80% were.
The BAR is a prop along with a prop RPG-7 some prop mortars etc which the OPFOR would typically be carrying as they wandered through the AO being reconoitered by the patrols during their area and point recon missions. Details such as enemy equipment, rank, uniform particulars and activities were debriefed following the missions as a means of checking on the effectiveness of the patrols being graded. They had received a short class and pre-work on NVA and VC uniforms and equipment and there initial missions were to avoid contact, observe and be prepared to report what they saw following their extraction from enemy territory.

Incidently the camp "CAMP STAHL" was named after PFC Nathan Stahl who was a SAW gunner for young RANGER Warren who you see in many of the pictures wearing my old ERTLS (They don't fit me anymore) Nathan was KIA in Afghanistan and Joshs best friend. He asked if I would name the camp after him and the decision was obviously an easy one.
Anachronistic since it was a Vietnam event but a nice touch. Josh is like the energizer bunny and was a big hit with the RECONDO students as was Kregg Jorgenson, Author of Acceptable Loss and Ghosts of the Highlands as well as a survivor of 57 LRRP missions as a point man.
One of the pictures shows a gathering of our most of veterans present at the event.. This combined cadre with students and I think 6 of the 36 students were actual veterans. All but a couple of the cadre were as well.

It is a hard resin prop about half the weight of the real steel but a 1:1 replica. It looks good. I sure wish it shot BBs!!!!!! The reality is as big as the BAR was for anything but ardent history buffs like us it'd never catch on with typical airsoft skirmishers as it's so long and bulky.
I also have a resin RPG-7 and a Resin .50 Cal which all look great and make excellent visual props. These were quite useful at the RECONDO school where RECON missions and being able to spot details was the bulk of the patrol mission assignments.

The DVD from the event is now done. It's awesome. Here is a small clip from the DVD to give you taste. www.battlesim.com/RTJ.mp4In addition it features more training clips, a wonderful 6 minute conversation with Kregg Joergenson explaining how the NVA typically reacted and how the LRRP teams responded when compromised. In additon there is great ambush footgae from the event and a cool black and white clip form the US Army 1968 "Know Your Enemy" training film. Several people have commented that it was the best airsoft event they ever attended and that this video is one of the best airsoft videos they have seen. They are packaged very professionally and are for sale for $13.95 shipped in the US.

Not sure that I got a kick out of it. I like your wit and view on your circumstances. I have 3 kids and a wife that think I'm cranky. I medically retired from the Army in 1977. Was with the 2nd Bat at Ft Lewis when it reformed.
