I heard the other night that you cannot purchase military medals and ranks because they said if you wear them and you didn't earn them veterans get mad. Has anyone else heard this.

That law is meant to prevent people from using medals and uniforms for personal benefit. Such as , pretending you were a Navy Seal and then getting paid for speaking to groups about your 'carreer' etc. Right now, there are a lot of douchbags that are running around playing on the publics support for our service members by pretending to be someone they are not. And no, 'vets' don't like it. We have a similar rule within our airsoft organization. None of us wears a rank above anything that we did not earn, and all of the vets insist that current issued uniforms be worn properly. We are more than happy to help someone out with that if they need it. For specific scenarios and historical role playing, that rule is relaxed. For true historic representations, nobody will complain as long as you do the whole thing right. It help us prevent a bunch of 14 year olds from running around in dorked up uniforms wearing generals stars to every game.

there are som strong opinions about this in the airsoft world. I would never use the Navy SEAL Trident, and thats not a problem as SEALs wouln't use them when ther are in the field. but alot of people don't even like that you use another nations flag on you're uniform. so i can't use a american flag because I'm not american. and in norway sevral people and the armed forces dosn't like that we have norwegian flags on norwegian unform, as people might think we are in the military

Eh that might be a little harsh, but yeah, they have no say in what you do. Go ahead and where the US flag proud. I really wonder the Modern day Germans outlook on German Reenactors....

I agree on the part of not wearing medals you earned, but it is not illegal to purchase or sell them, I own a LOT of ww2 medals and modern day medals that I purchased.
