No, it wasn't in their TO&E. However, they could have picked one up off a dead glider trooper or something like that. I have heard later in the war they found out how to jump with them, but I don't have any photographic evidences.

Since an affordable BAR is virtually non existent in the airsoft community it's a relatively moot question for this board (sadly!) but in talking to vets if they existed at all in airborne units they were extremely extremely rare. Absolutely NOT part of their TO&E . To offset it there were more light MGs and SMGs authorized. An opposite circumstance for RANGER units where there were proportionately far more BARs as well as SMGs then in a regular leg unit.

I have to put in my two cents after reenacting in the US82nd for ten years. Nimlas is correct, they were not part of the standard issue to jump with. Screamineagle101 is partly correct. The AB drop bundles were shoved out the door, not under the plane. C47's did not have the equipment to drop items under the plane like bombers. Veterans are our greatest source for info and the ones I have talked to said the ABtroopers would beg, barrow or steal any BAR's. So to say they didn't do one thing or another depends on the situtation. Outwardly they went by the book, but if they could get away with it they did it!!! I have seen photos of ABtroopers with BARS, but only after the jumps. Hope this helps, as the 82nd says, ALL THE WAY

I know BOB is just a movie based off of true events but from the replacements episode and up you sometimes get screen shots of one of the men with a bar

yeah ive seen that too and i think they show it in bastogne, and the breaking point. i think a paratrooper carrying a bar in the bulge is probably the most realisticof the theatres due to the desperite situation and extreme lack of amunition
