how did you use it without burning your hand or could it only be used when propping it on something?

The MG-15 was originally developed for use with the Luftwaffe and was put into the various bombers in use by Germany. In this form the Mg-15 would slide into aircraft machine gun mountings located on the various spots in bombers. However because of need for machine guns by the Germans during WW2 two infantry variants were produced.
Two versions were made for use by ground forces. One resembled the MG-34 and 42 in set up. However the gun could not take belted ammunition, instead it used the 75rnd saddle drum magazine or a 25rnd box magazine. A simple detachable tube stock could be screwed onto the rear of the receiver and then a bi-pod attached to the end of the barrel. In this configuration it retained the cooling jacket and operated as an air cooled machine gun.
The second version had a massive water cooling jacket attached to the front of the gun. It was also complimented by a carrying handle and the detachable stock. The Bi-pod was built into the water cooling jacket and the gun had a set of off set sights.

What mechbox are you going to put in it? Looked at blueprints once and could not figure out which one would fit best Are is it for looks only not for airsoft skirmishing?

I do have plans to try and put airsoft internals into this but I will have to wait until I get some more gearboxes to mess around with.
The barrel and stock is removeable so that you can attach either the water jacket, or the air cooled barrel assembly to the gun and have two versions in one.

Here is a small taste of the second version, with a water cooling jacket attached. None of the smaller details have been added yet but they will be! along with a water can and hose! TommyGunner
