SS impression

Hello, I am new to the forums as well as airsoft reenacting and some friends and I are looking for help on SS kits. I have been looking on the web for a while and I hope to order from hessen antiques, and ATF. I am looking to do a basic SS impression with an:

SS M42 tunic (infantry piping and such) - Was the eagle worn on the sleeve of a SS soldiers tunic or on the chest? Different places are saying where they go.

I don't know what type of trousers to use yet but most likely M37 or M42

either an M35 or M40 helmet (that's all hessen has, I can not afford a vintage since my head is rather large (59 liner).

sorry to ask to many questions but what boots would I use if it is a 1940 - end war team? I know helmets were distributed when and where needed or just found and used.

So far we have 3 people including me with 3 - 5 more possible joiners and 3 said they were going to get mausers so I hope no-one thinks were just going to mp40 rush the other team =P (we did have potato cannon dressed like a panzerschreck but that exploded during our remote test fire...we aren't making another).

The Heer (Army) would wear the eagle above their right breast pocket.

The Waffen-SS on the otherhand, would wear the eagle on their left sleeve.

As for boots, you could always go for either the jackboots or them low boots with gaiters or just socks.

They are also different eagles. Different Heer patterns and Waffen SS.

If you are going to do 1940 to the end, you wouldn't have an M42 tunic. But late in the war you see alot of tunic stocks being reissued. There photos of guys wearing M42 helmets with M36 tunics and M42 trousers, with low boots.

It really depends on your unit on what you got issued uniform wise. GD wore Jackboots untill the end. But the 12thSS had mostly low boots.

Pick a unit, find some pictures and go from there.
