This Goes out to all the owners of the Echigoya/Ultima MG42. I am having problems with it, and it seems as though every time I go out with it, it breaks! It is quite frustrating. It is mainly the piston, and I need some advice on what is the best piston for it is? Also does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to make it more reliable? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the back of the piston keeps breaking off install a washer between the piston head and piston. (I call this head spacing and have been doing it for 3 years now.) This will increase the pickup time on the piston when the sector gear makes contact.
You can also remove the 2nd tooth from the back of the piston. Removing it will ensure the sector gear is clear for proper engagement of the piston.

I've has similar luck with my MG-42. The gearbox seems incredibly well made but mine has also suffered multiple failures including, A couple stripped or broken pistons, Broken spring, failed motor, striped tooth from spur gear. broken tappet plate. Just Gradually replaced almost every internal part.
Ed has the right advice if you are continually suffering the same problem.
