I finally decided to put my money where my mouth is and buy one of the many guns that I have asked you guys about. This is also the first real review I have ever written, so it's destined to leave a lot to be desired.
The Nambu arrived in a weak, yet pretty cardboard box that really bit it hard during shipping, hence the wrinkles seen below
The package includes the pistol itself, a magazine, some 8mm BBs, a really flimsy paper target, a catalog of Marushin's other products, and a manual written entirely in what appears to be Japanese.
The overall look and feel of the gun is very good, even though it isn't made of actual metal or wood. The plastic itself feels like metal though, and the faux wood is very convincing. There are also very nice Japanese markings on it. This is the Heavyweight non-blow back version, so it feels very nice when you hold it but doesn't kick when you fire it. The lack of blow back is rather disappointing, but the two available Youtube videos of the blowback action are very unimpressive to say the least.
Also, Marushin's gbb models aren't exactly known for their reliability.
Given how weak the RS Nambu Type-14's actual cartridge was (8mm which is, ironically, the same as the airsoft version), the gun sounds surprisingly similar to the real thing; which speaks more about the RS gun than the airsoft gun. I didn't have the chance to chrono it but it shot reasonably hard and accurate for a $110 Marushin, especially considering how it's primarily meant to be a showpiece first and a skirmish sidearm second.
Two not so great things about this gun; The the rear sights are a bizarre trapezoid shape that is, IMO, very difficult to look through compared to most other sidearms
Also, loading rounds into the magazine seemed needlessly difficult as the BB's seemed to prefer rolling out of that top loop thing instead of actually staying put while you load the magazine into the gun.
Overall I am very happy with this gun, although my standards aren't exactly high either. If you're going for an IJA impression, then this is definitely the sidearm for you, or the Blowback version, or the Tokyo Marui if you can find it. I was hoping to compare it to the WE Luger but my local airsoft shop didn't have any in stock for me to try out. From what I've heard however, I'd probably recommend said Luger or the WE 1911 over the Marushin Nambu if you simply want a fancy WWII sidearm and you don't care which one, since they are 6mm and can handle Green Gas.
