In my never-ending hunt for the Holy Grail, the airsoft 1903, I came upon a possibility. If some of the proffesional converters could help me with a question like this. I was thinking of converting a spring rifle (looks like a Remington 700) into the Springfield. This is what I was planning to use: www.hobbytron.com/SpringAirsoftSniperRifleBoltActionWoodSuperSniperDYTMP001A.htmlMy plan was to get that and put almost like a shroud over the free-float barrel that resembles the Springfield's type. Would that be possible? -Nick

I'm no professional, but just looking at it presents many problems.
First, you'd need a M1903 stock, either the straight, scant, or C stock Second, you'd need to dremel the stock AND shroud to fit, then modify the barrel, attach M1903 sights, etc. That still leaves out receiver group mods and bolt handle mods.
Ask 2ndBat and look at how much work he did. Even with his amazingly low charge for labor, his M1903s (which are absolutely stunning) come out to $800, beyond many people's budgets.

A JG BAR10 would be the best rifle to use. You can get Springfield Handguards and stocks for reasonably cheap.

Why would the BAR-10 be the best? Just a question.
So, correct me if I am wrong: I need to disassemble the gun to the internals and the barrel and drop it into the Springfield, then reassemble the Sprigfield.

yeah... if you find a miracle way to fit the Springfield receiver to the BAR-10

BAR10 would be the best because many people think it's the best budget bolt action on the market right now.

Not only that but they're cheap too. And you can make easy mods to them. But i think you could possibly try both, and tell us what worked and what didnt.

Read the complete thread in the Technical section on converting a VSR base springer to a Springfield and that will provide you with a much clearer sense for waht is involved. The Spring rifle shown has NOT proven to be very reliable. They shoot great and are a great deal at the low price but if you go to the trouble and expense of converting them you'll discover that they quickly break and will leave you disappointed. The BAR 10 or TSD base guns aren't much more expnesive (Perhaps $30.00 or so) but are way more reliable and durable. Springfield hardwoods and especially the actual hardware is very expensive when you add it all up so it's not a cheap conversion although doing it yourself can save you a whole lot.

Apparently a shop in Gettysburg PA sells full, de-milled Springfields for $150.00 which would clearly provide you with the hardwood and all the fixtures to do the adaptation. A Bar 10 will perhaps run you another 100.00 so for literally under $300.00 and several months of dinking around you could build one of these yourself. That's cheap and it's a fun project. Obviously if you dedicated more focused efforts you could complete it much much quicker.

Could anyone provide the measurement on the barrel length for those of us who don't have a bayonet lying around?

It is 3 and 1/4 inches from the tip of the Springfield (Or Garand) barrel tip to the tip of the bayonet lug. The recess from the barrel tip to the front site is slightly more than a 1/4 inch.
I hope that helps!
