My Thompson has been giving me some problems lately. When I pull the trigger, the response is sluggish, and it feels like the whole gun is struggling to fire. Also, after about 20 min of playing, the battery seems like it "dies". So i got a new battery and charger, and still the same is happening. Today, I unplugged the battery, and plugged it back in. The gun fired like normal for a while until yet again the batter seemed to die. The ROF is lower, and the accuracy seems to be down.
I think my problem has to do with the wiring of the gun. What upgrades should I get to fix this?

My MP40 does the same thing. its done this for a year. i just got a new gun, i have completely rewired the gun and nothing has worked. you might check and see if the chinagans reversed the polarity on the battery. They did with mine.

Well mines an Intellect, so I don't think thats the problem. Ahh I would hate to have to get a new gun. I'll get one of those Kapowwe store returns, if I have to.

Well, I accidentally just stripped the wires from my CYMA Ak (i now don't have any guns in working order, and the AK wobbles), so I'll give them a shot. God it was so much easier back in the days with spring guns!

The China MP40 and M1A1 AEG's are not factory greased properly, they use petrolium based greases even in the cylinder. What happens is the petrolium grease eventually breaks down the o-rings causing them to get sticky and eventually wear. If you haven't done this already, I suggest the gearbox be taken apart, the piston head and cylinder head be replaced. You need to really clean the box up, re-shim and grease properly with 100% silicon grease in the cylinder and proper grease on the gears.
The other eventual problem is caused from the factory installed plastic bushings. These too should be replaced with metal ones while the gear box is open. Try Area 1000 6mm metal non-bearing bushings on the MP40 and version 6 bushings on the M1A1. Please remember when installing new bushings that you must re-shim.
The added resistance from a poor preforming gearbox will wear your battery down faster. Your spring may also be worn if not rested properly after each use.
To perfect the MP 40 gearbox this is what needs to be installed: - metal Bushings and re-shim - New Version 3 spring guide (metal with bearings) - Ported Poly Piston head - The cylinder should be a Type-2 or Type-3 instead of the type-0 factory installed. - Grease the piston and cylinder parts using 100% silicon. - M110 Spring
The M1A1 upgrades should follow above but use a type-1 cylinder and like the TM M1A1 it will need ver 6 bushings (pill type). I find the China M1A1 better built than the MP40, maybe because its a TM clone. It also works well using the PDI170 spring.
Just my two cents

Thanks for all of the help.
Is a new Piston necessary? Also, for the Cylinder, should I just get an M4 bore up kit?

Thanks for all of the help. Is a new Piston necessary? Also, for the Cylinder, should I just get an M4 bore up kit? While it's open you might as well upgrade everything such as a piston and head. No on the M4 bore up, you need a nozzle for the M1A1. A good place to order from is www.uncompany.com out of Hong Kong. Or Redwolf. Just verify they have all in stock. Their web page shows they do. Systema offers an upgrade kit as shown below. Part# ZS-03-44I would also suggest the Angel piston designed for the M1A1. I have found this item the best. Part # Angel PPP20-3 Systema also makes a version 6 piston Part# ZS-05-19For the bushings, try those by Hurricane, Part #HE-05-18I would also replace the hop-up bucking (SRC makes a good one) while your at it. For the motor go with a short TM EG1000 or for more torque the EG700 (Preferred)

Kalbs- Thanks for all of the help. Im going to replace everythijng you've said while the gearbox is open. Hopefully, this will be the only time i need to open it. It doesnt say if this is the short type, so is this the motor? www.uncompany.com/pageproductdetails.asp?prodid=424 Phew.....170 bucks for all of this. Expensive Hobby lol,,,

Yes, it's the short one on the M1A1, same as the AK. One other thing (not that I want to spend all your cash), maybe get a new spring and spring guide. I'm not sure what you local game fps rules are though. Don't for get the shims and 100% silicon grease (I found a tube at an automotive shop used for highend brakes) If you're in the US maybe try Airsoft Atlanta first for price comparison (http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/parts_aeg.htm), I think they may carry lots of the parts too. Note that Chinese New Year starts end of this month so shops will be closed in HK for about a week starting 1/26 - 1/29 ish.
Also on motors...Stay clear of the Systema motors, the pinions are crap on them.

I've also checked out Airsoftgi.com as they have done a good job of helping me in the past, and have free shipping.
In my cart I have...
Area 1000 Aluminum Piston Head P Force Silicone Spray 50ml JBU Full Cylinder Type 1 ICS Gear Grease Systema Precision Shim Set Echo 1/Modify SP110 spring ECHO 1 Ver. 6 Metal Bushings Echo 1 Version 3 Spring Guide with Bearings Echo 1 Version 3 Spring Guide with Bearings
And thats $85
On Airsoft Atlanta I'll get: Guarder Tappet Plate Version 6 Angel Super High Speed Polycarbonate Piston (Version 6) Tokyo Marui EG700 (Short Type)
And thats $77
So $162 not including shipping. (which should be cheaper than from HK )
The bore up kit seems like a lot more money than buying the parts individually. It's $70 (i think) on Airsoft Atlanta.

It is indeed an epensive hobby we are in... Did you get a new hop-up bucket and silicon grease? I see you got the gear grease though (which is different). Your upgraded M1A1 will purrrrrr.... Once you have your parts and start the upgrade let me know if I can be of further help. If you have not upgraded or disassembled a gearbox before there are some tricks and tips I can help with. -kalbs-

I've never (successfully) opened up a gearbox before. Last time, I opened up the gearbox on my Well R6 after it broke to see what was going on and BAMMM the whole thing blew up on me! I did not get a new hop up bucking. Does it matter what type I get? I added silicone grease. Thanks for all of the help again, and I think it's gonna be pretty sweet after this! WW2 Equipment + Airsoft = Expensive (and addicitng )

SRC makes a good bucking as does the standard TM. make sure you order one that provides the little nub as well. Using a SP110 spring just order a standard one.
Taking the gear box apart can be assisted by covering it with a towel so parts don't fly and also using duct tape to hold the cylinder in place.

So it doesn't matter, bucking is the same for almost every gun?
