I have been stuck on this project for awhile so I decided to post it.
That way I have to finish it some day.
It is late tonight and I know there are spelling and punctuation errors. I will edit it later on.
MP44 the first assault rifle.
Again this is a weapon I was exposed to during my blank fire ww2 days.
I have always wanted one but alas they are getting to be as rare as hens teeth and worth their weight in gold literally.
Here is a link to the real gun history
www.mp44.nl/weapons/mp44_history.htm
When the first CA33 came out I thought it would make a good MP44 replica.
I shopped around ad finally found some clone BE HK33's on ebay being auctioned as defective. Both of the stocks were broken off.
That really did not bother me because they would be replaced during the conversion anyway.
So I bid and won them both, for the price of one gun and shipping I now had my guns to start the project
The 2 donor guns
Started working on the first MP44. I am going to do them one at a time so any new ideas will hopefully make the second one easier to build.
I removed the remains of the plastic stocks from the Sockets and started to fit the G3 wood stock.
I carefully chiseled and sawed until it fit.
45 minutes of work into the project
Only took 45 minutes to fit the stock. It is amazing to me that how much more like an MP44 it looks with the rear sight removed and the wood stock fitted.
I will not be worrying about magazines at this time. I have found several pictures on line and in the Collector Grade MP44 book that show 10 round magazines were used. cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q=mp44+10+round+magazines&d=73885642655678&mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&w=207e70f4,9ca31610
They may not have been general issue but they were out and about, so long magazines will not be a priority.
Moving forward to the hand guard. I am toying with several ways of doing it. Some involve building it out of PVC or alloy tubing, or cutting down a real G3 wooden handcart and painting it to look like steel. I would rather not do that because it is a niece piece of wood and could be sold to someone who has a G3.
The front sight will probably be built from either an AK front sight or a m4 front sight. Either way PVC sheeting will be used to build it up to the correct height. I am bidding on some real Mauser 98 k front sight hoods and hope to be able to use them to dress up the appearance a bit.
Further progress
Front sight and hand guard
The front sight is an AK front sight that I cut grooves into for the hood to fit on. The sides will still be built up with plastic sheet or epoxy putty.
The hadnguard is the wood g3/cetme handguard cut down to 9 inches and fitted to go around the barrel support brackets. Eventually there will be a screw that goes through the hand guard and hold the handguard and outer barrel on. I am going to fit it a little better so there is not a gap between the handguard and the receiver
The rear sight is a plastic AK trunnion and rear sight cut down to size and epoxied to the top of the receiver
her is the rear of the receiver the rear sight mount has been filed and dremmeled off. the hole was filled with JB weld. I need to do some more shaping but it is getting close.
Right now the gun stands at about 80% complete.
I am waiting for my good friends at Nashville air soft to get some 7.4 Li Po stick packs that may fit into the stock if that doesn't work the gun will probably end up as a wall hanger.
I have also replace the totally craptastic stock hop up with a Guarder
unit. I think it will feed much better now.
