I am wanting to do either an FJ or SS setup and I was wondering who makes the best set of 44 dot for around or under $150? I know ATF has some coming, and 1944militaria's are good, but those are way to expensive for my gear budget.

Dot and cheap don't go together.

Yah, I know. I hope ATF's aren't over $200 when they get them in. If they aren't I probably will get them.

I have DOTs from the old HK Keith, Spearhead, Dawlong and the latest from Ant-Z. By far, the HK Keith version is my favorite. The pattern is almost identical on everything but the ANT-Z dots, but the HK Keith version was made of much heavier weight HBT than the other two. Sadly, they are no longer available. I really like the roomier cut of the ANT-Z's, but the coloration is way too dark brown for many folks tastes. They did get the belt hanger holes right. There seems to be the usual debate on some reenactor boards as to their correctness. Some 'experts' claim they are dead on, while others say they are all wrong. ;D All I know is that my HK Keith,Spearhead,Dawlong versions coloration almost exactly match the colors shown in my Michael Beaver SS camoflage book, but they all have the wrong number of belt hanger holes. That is minor since nobody really sees that in the field.

like others said, cheap and dot dont work togather.....save up and get something worth owning.
SM wholesale or Janke. 1944 militaria is best place to get SM stuff, Bill Bureau can still get Janke stuff but it takes awhile. I have a janke 44 dot panzer wrap that is pretty epic. all the HK dot I have seen so far is smurfed, color and material is way off.

SMW are by far the best reproduction avalible. They often recieve additional ageing, and are sold as originals. Janke and Zeugmeisterei shares a second place. I think Zeug is better than Janke, because it's better value for the money, and the prints are of a equal quality imo. Ant-z is third. It's not a bad print, but it's not perfect. It need to be somewhat faded to look accurate, but the pattern is quite good, and the colours are ok. If price is the main factor, then definately go for these. New version of the print will be out sometime in 2009. They are currently looking for a factory than can make a better base fabric. HKK, Spearhed, Sturm, etc. are ok, but got flaws that make them unsuitable for "serious" use. If price is important, than go with ANt-z instead of the rest.

So..you are saying that the ANT-Z offering is a close color match to the way overpriced 1944 militaria version?? Hmmm..I really like the darker colors of the ANT-Z's myself, but they have been getting savaged on some reenactor boards for being completely wrong. (shrug). I have no loyalty to any manufacturer and just want to find a set that is as close to correct as possible without costing a kings fortune to purchase. And, they have to be available when I want to buy them. Waiting 6-8 months for somebody to decide to make/stock something is not in my nature. ;D

The new Spearhead ones that have come out (or at least they seem different to me) look similar to the ANT-Z one you have in the photos.
