if i remember correctly, anyone correct me if i'm wrong ,but the 3 cell thompson pouch was primarily issued to USMC units.i haven't seen any photos of ABN in the ETO with them.

That was my understanding as well. The three pocket Khaki pouch was strictly USMC. The OD M3 grease gun pouch was used by Army and of course worked fine for Thompson mags.

The thing though is that there were two diffrent types of the three cell pouch. One had USMC stamped on it and the other just had US, which leads me to believe there was one for the army and one for the marines, it could just be a mistake on the part of the manufacturer. Well, at least I have a mag bag and rigger pouch I can hook up to my rig.

I certainly wouldn't have an issue with a khaki colored 3 pocket Thompson pouch on an Army impression. The facts are within the fratenity of 6 million men in uniform and the wide variety of issued and acquired gear virtually anything was possible in virtually any unit.
They certainly weren't common but a US stamp on the back has me fairly convinced it was done as all of them I've seen have had the USMC stamp. My opinion? Go for it.

I did some additional research and checked with an expert. The khaki 3 pocket Thompson pouches for 30 round mags were an Army as well as a Marine Corp issued item. Undoubtedly they ended up in airborne units. They have to be a rare find and probably are worth quite a bit if original.

I have a three cell just cuz I'm too lazy to find the right kind plus they are more expensive.

As noted earlier the 3 cell are just fine from an authenticity perspective for either Army ETO or marine!
