The Kart, UTG, and TSD versions are not as well done as the AGM and especially the CYMA. Apprently the CYMA folks had to redo their molds following a raid on their factory. Hopefully the latest iteration is as well done as the last. In my opinion the CYMA is worth the extra money having now funnelled well ove 200 of them through my system of conversions. The AGM still remains a satisfactory substitute. The other models have chronic trigger challenges. Either the spring stretches or worse a small spring attachment point inside the gun breaks. This does not seem to be a problem with the AGM, CYMA or Marui. Although even they occassionally lose semi auto capacity.

Good News! MY AGM M14 arrived today, right out of the box it was impressive. It is pretty heavy and long (from my foot to my lowest rib). Looks and feels very sturdy and i enjoyed fiddling around with it for an hour or so. I will test it when the battery is charged up then i will see about ordering the Garand parts.

The Weapon shoots really well in my opinion, didnt have to adjust anything and i was hitting targets at around 70 feet. Very nice weapon to shoot. Ordering M1 Parts after my dad comes home from Europe.

Nice can't wait to see your M1! I guess since the CYMA's aren't in stock I'll have to be buying an AGM M14 too.

Waiting now on the parts to come in. I think that battery would work, after switching the plugs around of course, don't take my word for it though. Anyone have recommendations on the looks of the weapon? paint brands? finishes?

Well Garands varied quite a bit in wood color and metal color. Here are some choices I put out for myself. Grey: Flat Grey Primer Gloss Black: Jet Black Flat Black: Flat Black Bluing: first paint flat black then go over it with steel wool. Bare: either completely wipe the gun down of its metal paint with steel wool, fine grit sand paper, and paint stripper or Paint it a silver color. Look over this site it show you a lot of different Garand finishes. www.m1garand.net/

Anybody have a paint combination suggestion to look like a parkerized finish? My Springfield Armory M1 looks sort of brown with overtones of green-gray. It's a hard color to describe.

Construction has begun today! parts arrived earlier, went out to home depot to get tools. I would post pics if i had a camera that took pictures instead of making funny sounds and turning off every other minute. Again the final color is still a mystery to me, i know im doing a walnut but the home depot guys said dont use stain on the plastic as it would do bad bad bad things to it. Any suggestions?

Wow that looks like a really nice effect. The gel stain is about the same although this would probably dry quicker.

Ok Walnut Gel stain ill have to get that. So far ive done all the cutting except for the dremel parts. As i have yet to figure out how to work the darn thing 0.0 . Still i am confident that my final product will be more than satisfactory. Anyone know any good links for how to switch the AGM battery connecters? the ones i have found are unclear and provide little or no help.

I am finished for the most part. The gun is assembled and the frame looks like an M1! Whats left: Attaining the correct colors, finding a way to attach the handguards+stock, and finding away to attach a ferrule to the gas cylinder as mine did not come with one. Then comes: buying new battery, buying combat pack of clips from 2ndBat, and doing some cosmetics. A quick question. Can i rip off the firing selector? i dont like the look of it. If i rip it off while on single will it stay on single? Thanks for the loads of help guys!

You can cut the selector nob off but leave the base on. Then you can fill the hole in with bondo. If you ordered the metal bits I'd suggest you email them and tell them you didn't receive you full order. Which ferrule don't you have. Is it the one the gas cylinder attaches too? i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh11/Fighten3rd/DSC00050.jpg

Yeah i contacted them and there was no guarantee on the parts they just picked the first ones off the pile :/. I think im going to fill the thing with wood filler and sand it down to resemble the shape around the handguards. Im missing the gas cylinder ferrule AND the handguard one.

Mine didn't come with the handguard one but did come with the frontal one. I'd suggest you buy the ferrule that attaches to the gas cylinder.

the sealant i used screwed over the paint job, have to re stain and such. Very disappointing, and i cant find the connector to my camera for the PC. Still should look good after i re-coat it.

FINISHED! no where near the quality of 2ndBat's rifles, but for a first try its pretty decent. I will be testing it in a couple of hours after the battery is charged. The only thing that is left is the cosmetic stuff, like the stock. Thank you all for your help, and i am truly glad i didnt have to go with a Thompson like most other US soldiers.
Thanks again
Canning
(i don't have a working camera so no pics....for now)

Cool! Its too bad you don't have a camera, I greatly enjoy seeing pictures of M1 Garand AEG's. Good luck with the stock, I am guessing your reshaping it with Bondo?
