for those of you who have attended both, which was better? I'm thinking about finally getting together an impression for my airsoft guns that are rotting in the corner of my room (a thompson, a 2nd bat garand and TWO marushin carbines ). However i want to make sure to get an appropriate impression for the event i'm going to. M43s are on the cheap right now at Atthefront so i was thinking about getting a set and gearing up for the long winter. I also have a beard (that i'm not about to shave. Work won't let us grow it at just anytime)so i thought that'd be more appropriate for the winter games. However, from the aars and photos of jump to destiny it looks to have a great turn out, great props, and a great d-day set up i've always wanted to play. what do you guys think?

I attended both this year, and while I enjoyed both, I honestly enjoyed Long Winter more. Now, let me say that a lot of the things that detracted from my enjoyment of Long Winter I believe will be addressed for the next one, and that barring new information, if I had to choose just one to attend next year, it would be JtD. That said, this year’s JtD had more of pretty much everything; players, units, field area, vehicles, fortifications, immersion, etc. A lot of blank fire reenactors attended JtD, and they brought a lot of really cool stuff. Again, I can only speak for this year’s events, but JtD definitely had a lot more effort put into it.
Short answer, I would recommend Jump to Destiny. Are your uniform options so restrictive as to prevent attending both (I do not know US gear)? WW II airsoft events tend to be less restrictive than blank fire. I know in my German unit, it would not be an issue to have a late war uniform at an event with an early war theme, and given that the Long Winter/JtD Battlesim rentals for German uniforms are converted Swiss stuff, I do not think they would fuss over details to such a high degree either.

If you live close enough and do US, do both if you can. They had airborne at both events. I went to long winter this year and am kicking myself for not going to JTD... These guys know their stuff and do a good job of melding the worlds of blank fire and airsoft together.

I could probably get away with a set of M42s at both Jump to Destiny and Long Winter. I would feel a little out of place wearing M43s during a D-Day event though as they were more of a later war type uniform. Also as i mentioned before, I have a full beard. Which would be rather uncommon at a D-Day event but more forgivable at a Hurtgen Forest or Battle of the Bulge event. I guess what i'm saying is I could probably fit into both events with M42s, but M43s are cheaper right now and my beard will kind of break the impression at a d-day event.

Your beard and M43s would definitely work better for the Long Winter where M42s would be somewhat more acceptable for either. The standards keep getting better as the bar continues to rise but the comminity is still quite welcoming for those making an effort. I shaved off a beard of 35 years and truthfully I never imagined that I would do that. In looking at old pictures with the beard in previous events I cringe. With that said I've seen guys do a great job of disquising the presence of facial hair with scarves and chin straps. The NW War department/ Battlesim folks put on excellent events and are constantly working to make them better. Some of the folks at JtD did not benefit from sufficient conflict opportunities and this situation is an easy fix and will be addressed effectively at future events. In any large event it's impossible to insure a consistent experience for evryone but there are definitely ways to minimize the level of variation between various unit experiences.

Well i ordered my set of M43s. Couldn't pass up the price, so i'll be seeing you all at Long Winter, and I suppose after that, the time until jump to destiny gives me enough time to get together some M42s and decide if i'm going shave
