Just letting you know, it looks like you've got a 1910 shovel carrier on that. If you already have the cover for the 1910, might as well get a 1910 shovel instead of buying both the 43 cover and shove

Yeah, the 43 is a better shovel, but it is Normandy and later only really. Plus you save money by only getting one e-tool.

Great picture with excellent support of your conclusion. That would appear to be Iwo Jima based on what little I can make out of the map and the volcanic ash around them? Yep, it's Iwo Jima, but I can't find the caption for the photo to confirm the regiment.

Well then, I'll get the M10 then. Do you think that I can use rubber Kar98 clips in my cartridge belt?

As a pouch filler sure, but it'd only make sense if you had a Springfield.

Where do you get the rubber fake Garand clips from and how much are they? if not too expensive and if they look good I can see where they would be cool props.

They cost $5 in the UK (£2.99), however shipping costs $12 to the US. Would be worth it if you buy in bulk. I'll be on the look-out though, incase you aren't interested.

^ That looks great! Lots of good stuff in this thread, I must say. Great job everyone! The beginnings of my USMC impression/loadout: G&G M1 Garand P41 uniform M41 jacket USMC gaiters Steel pot with cover This is just the very basics as I'm still waiting for all the webbing and my boondockers (the shoes in the picture are just a pair of everyday leather/suede boots).

The GnG Garand looks quite nice (relative to the ICS). The rest of your impression looks great as well. The footwear wouldn't even have been noticed by me as the leggings hides their infidelity quite well. In pictures you frequently see Marines have disguarded them and just get by with rolled up pant legs. I also heard that USMC leggings officially had fewer hooks and eyelets although I know Army inventory was frequently used as well.

Thanks! The gun shoots fine, but I'll have to skirmish with it a few times and really put it through its paces until I can give a more detailed answer. 2nd Bat, I actually chose the G&G over the ICS one because of its looks (I find internals are always easier to fix up than externals, especially on these classic rifles) and I'm very happy with it so far. I've heard the ICS is a great shooter so it's a damn shame the gun looks "off" in places. Fun fact; the uniform is actually a screen used one from "The Pacific" (belonged to the character called Kathy by other marines on Okinawa) so it's riddled with cool little details like sweat and salt stains, fading etc. And concerning the leggings they're a proper pain to put on and take off so I probably won't bother sometimes. They're pretty comfy when they're on though! And yes, the USMC gaiters had six hooks while the Army ones had eight.

I wore gaitors on occasion in SE Asia. This was relatively uncommon but I hated the issue jungle boots which absolutely did not agree with my feet. Instead I wore canvas low quarter NVA booties which we nicknamed RECONDO sneakers. The leggings did a nice job of providing ankle support and helped keep critters and bramble scrapes when beating the bush. They were a pain to put on and take off but as stated once on they were quite nice. These were dark OD and obviously late WW2 unissued items. By the time the Dark OD was starting to replace the early war khaki the Army had transitioned many of their front line troops to the double buckle combat boots.
Incidentally I was going to comment that halfnelsons uniform items had a field worn look that was quite nice. I also wanted to commend the earlier threesomes look as extremely well done also. Nice and field grizzly.

Nice impressions halfnelson and zam! I think the interesting thing about Kathy is that the real "Kathy", and Sledgehammer does refer to him as Kathy in his book, was treated completely different in real life. The personal background is basically the same, he was married, drafted, and had an affair with Kathy Jones. But Sledgehammer says he was well liked and even one of Sledge's buddies. The real Kathy was a machine gunner, not a mortar man.

As always ZAM very impressive. The S&T conversion to an M1903A1 is a very nice touch as is the tattered and worn look of your dungarees.

Hello all, been absent for a little while but I went and bought a few load outs while I was away... Looking for pointers to finish everything up to "stitch nazi" standards. I need to work on the footwear for sure, but I'm mainly looking for constructive criticism on gear and uniform. Don't worry, I'll get everything dirty. But for now tell me what looks right, what looks out of place, and any add on details that would finish everything out PIC HEAVY btw. Pacific Marine Rangers Garand Rangers BAR gunner (I'm using alot of WWI gear on this one, that's why it looks odd. I usually re use all of the gear attached to the Garand set up.) 101st Paratrooper Wools And don't judge me too harshly on the 2nd armored, a friend of mine has a BRDM that we are going to use for air soft so I went with a half ass tanker load out after Fury came out. Just thought I'd share for fun. Just need to get the tanker helmet... Thanks ahead for the input! I stumbled across this just now, thought I'd help (at least with the USMC part). Lose the Thompson mag bag and replace the 3 cell with a 5 cell. I have yet to see a picture of any Marine using either the bag or 3 cell pouch. I would also rig your haversack so that it's easy to ditch if need be. Really other than that just add some extras, can be either US Army or USMC contract gear, they used whatever they could get theirs hands on.

The tankers frequently wore the bib coveralls if you can get your hands on them. Maybe add a jeepers hat for the tanker, a wool or silk scarf or sweater to enhance some of the looks. For your wools a garrison cap perhaps? Cigarettes or cigars in at least some of them? each looks really really good. You've been busy while you were away!

I honestly kind of like that spic-and-span new look-- it's like you're fresh off the transport and ready to hit the beach for the first time.
Things will get nicely broken in and dirty from honest field use. Usually a few events and not washing your uniform in between is enough to take the sheen off of things. Plus, even as some stuff ages and wears quicker than other, remember that troops were constantly getting replacement gear, often in dribs and drabs, so some well-worn equipment coupled with brand spankin' new stuff is certainly not unheard of.

Just to prove I'm no slack just taking photos in my bedroom, here are some photos of me at a parade and display this past weekend. My cartridge belt and canteen covers got here just in the nick of time - literally 24 hours before the parade. Unfortunately, cellphone photos are all I can muster for now. Again, representing F 2/26, 5th Marine Division.

New ATF P42s arrived yesterday. The first two photos are of the brown side out with a WWII Impressions helmet cover, and the last is all ATF. The USMC stamps on the breast pockets are some sort of rubberized paint like what you would see on a graphic t-shirt, plus they are a little oversized - ATF said to order your normal waist size but I could have easily ordered one size down. But overall, I'm pretty happy with them. ATF said that this will be their last run of P42s. I purchased them for my upcoming Tarawa impression, so I have no clue on what to utilize the green side for, hence the mish-mash of kit. With the Marines at Tarawa... Green side - Bougainville? Cape Glouchester? I don't know - like I said, my main concern was brown side for Tarawa.

Double post, but whatever - latest bit came in the mail. Sent out a post war CAPAC Westinghouse helmet liner to be converted into a Hawley Fibre Liner stand-in, and it arrived last week. Hawley Fiber Liners are essential for anyone doing early campaigns, like Guadalcanal or North Africa. They also appear quite frequently throughout 1943, being easily observed on Tarawa. Some can even be seen throughout 1944 and 1945. It's not a perfect reproduction - the brim is some sort of rubber tubing, and the cloth shouldn't bunch up like you can see it doing. However, the other offerings on the market also have these flaws, and I don't have the tools or materials to do the conversion better myself, so I'll take it as it is for now.
