This might sound dumb, but I am new at this so I'm just gonna ask. How do you tell the difference between WWII and Vietnam and Korea era helemts. I got an old helmet from a second hand store for 10 bucks, but it doesn't have a liner or a dat anywear and I'd like to get a correct liner for it. Also has anyone seen the orange helmets being offered at the sportsmans guide? shop.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=243508I was wondering if these would be more or less ok if you painted them OD?

WWII dated helmets had the seam in the front of the helmet, while post war helmet's seams are in the back. Thats the only way I know of to tell.

I believe sept. of 43 they introduced it. Along with the swivel bales. I really like my helmet because it is one of those last production front seams, and it has swivel bales.

rear seam came in november of 1944. swievel bale however was yes back in 1943. thats why you see front seam helmets with fixed bales and swievel bales.
as for rear seam... it is a high controvery, yes it is true that it was made since novemver of 1944, but did it ever reach the frontline in time to be used? nobody has yet to answer that question yet. you see on ebay many rear seam helmet in ww2 configurations with matching ww2 liners, but you cannot really call those ww2 pieces, because they were making exact same helmets until late 40's after the war...

So if if seem is in the front there is no way its anything else but WWII? If so that is what I have. By they way mauser98k mine has the swivel bales also! So that leads me to my next questions. It needs to be pepainted. It has the original paint, and even the cork texture, but it rusted enought to change the color. There is no pitting, or holes or anything like that, it just has kinda rust/brown patina. I do have an original fiber liner for it, but the webbing is all gone should I/can I get replacement parts, or should I buy a new one? Is post war ok on that or does it need to be original. Finally were to buy? I totally appreciate all the feedback. I have found more info on this site over the last few days than all my meanderings over the web.

At ht e Front has excellent reproduction webbing in Khaki. It sounds like your helmet merits the effort.
