leggings are a fascinating piece of kit and it's hillarious to see folks fiddle with them, especially if they've never put them on before.
Obviously the hooks go on the outside and should face the rear to avoid snagging on stuff. So you definitely have a left and right to come up with a proper pair. Funny when people fail to do that. (especially when they put both sets of hooks on the inside. (A US controller at the Caranetan game took a nasty header during the game when he tripped himself with his leggings. Fortunately he was unhurt but he tore several hooks right out of the leggings he had borrowed!
As I was sorting through dozens and dozens of leggings getting people outfitted, I noticed that there are many variations? I recently discovered there are different sizes 1R being the smallest I've seen and 4 R being the biggest. There's a huge difference in shades which is partly aging but also typical of all things Khaki and OD issued by the US Army. My biggest consternation is the variation in the number of hooks. Most have 8 hooks but a couple pair had 6 sets of hooks and one or two pairs had 9 hooks. Yikes! I know the six hook sets are marine Corp. What's up with the 9 hooks? It makes keeping them together in sets quite frustrating when you have a bunch of pairs.
Anyone have some dope on the 9 hooks?

Could these leggings with nine hooks be British made? Is the weave of the material different from others? That's the only thing I can think of.

The weave is different. So perhaps British made. You'd think they would have gone with an existing pattern however. Am I right about the shorter leggins being Marine corp.?

there were, from what I understand, some shorter leggings that were made by the army near the end of the war, but I've always seen and heard them referenced as khaki with OD trim. I have heard them called 'latewar' and womens leggings. Once again however, I believe that the marine leggings still had fewer eyelets.....

Well, if you think about it, it almost makes mroe sense. Look at it like this... British webbing was different than US webbing. So the US goes and has the Limeys make leggings for them, it would cost alot of money to have totally different webbing made instead of using existing stuff.
British Thompson mag bags are the same way, differnt weave and they have compartments for the mags.
