My CYMA Thompson is starting to get a little tired and I think I'm ready to do a rebuild. I want to go all out and have never pulled the gun apart.
My main question is: can any gearbox or motor fit in this gun or am I limited? I really want to up the rate of fire. I also want to get more FPS out of it.
I'm fairly mechanical, so I'm confident I can pull this thing apart. I'm also working on wood furniture for the gun (doing it all myself).
I would appreciate some help.

The M1A1 uses a version 6 gearbox, no other type will work but I doubt you need to change that. While you have the gearbox open consider replacing: bushings (ver 6 type only), piston piston head spring guide (Bearing type) spring (maybe pdi 150), cylinder head nozzle The most likely culprits is the wearing of the o-rings on the piston head and cylinder head and relaxed spring. China made guns are usually poorly greased and use a petroleum type grease while they should use only 100% silicon based grease in the cylinder area. You will want to buy a set of new shims also if you replace the Ver. 6 bushing (I recommend this) For disassembly checkout this link: www.airsoftforum.com/board/Cybergun-Cyma-Thompson-Re-t128730.html&pid=17902815This is a Cybergun link but it's the same as the China model Checkout Youtube for more videos

I appreciate the info. What about the rate of fire?

I appreciate the info. What about the rate of fire? The higher the battery voltage, the higher the rof. Use of high speedgears ar a possibility too but this limits the fps to a lower range. Some motors also have faster speeds too.

So, anyone who's taken apart the Cyma/Big 5 China Tommy: What'd you find as far as the internals? Any quality at all? I'm thinking of upgrading mine too. Am I going to have to buy all new internals or will it handle a beefier spring as is?
