Why is the Bar-10 such a popular gun for custom spring builds suck as the Springfield, Mosin and Kar98? I was looking at using a VSR-10 for my Kar98 project and was wondering if the VSR's were just to big or did people just really like the Bar-10's?

I used VSR-10 for my Springfield conversion, and I am going to do the same with Enfield. As I see, the most people here use VSR for conversions.

I believe they're essentially the same gun. One is a Chinese clone of the other. Makes absolutely no difference from what I've heard.

They are exactly the same gun but cheaper therefore most people use them to save on cost.

Yeah, the Bar-10 is just JG's clone of the VSR10.

The Bar 10 also accepts any and all Marui upgrade components but it already starts out shooting harder. Like a lot of the Chinese clones which are not hampered by the power FPS restrictions of Japan it is a great value.

Wait the Mauri VSR-10 is a better gun then the JG BAR-10. AGM makes a rifle called the VSR-10 which is a clone of the Mauri one too. The AGM VSR-10 is known to be not as nice as the JG BAR-10. To my memory it has a lower FPS out of the box, and also just isn't externally as nice as the JG BAR-10.

The AGM Clone of the Marui VSR 10 is close but by no means exact. It usually goes by the MP001 nomenclature. Most of the internals ARE NOT interchangeable and it will NOT accept available upgrade parts. It does shoot much harder than a stock Marui and in fact some right out the box shoot harder than the Bar-10 However the guns aren;t very consisitent and they definitely aren't very reliable. I had half the rifles I built with them fail within six months . I think the spiring mounted in them exceeded the build quality.
I'd definitely stick with the Bar 10 for a conversion. It sucks to go through the build effort and have the gun not work.

It's a good conversion gun because if you're not planning on using at as a primary weapon, it does not need to be upgraded. They'll shoot 425ish right out of the box. Also, my Bar-10 is extremely accurate.

How long would a non upgraded one last before it broke do you think?

Totally depends on the user. How hard and fast are they using the gun and whether they clean it after events and whether they dry fire it a lot. It should last a $100 worth if players are even reasonably gentle with it.

A friend of a friend is offering me a used Well MB03 for $40, with an extra mag. I was planning on making a MAS-36 prototype this summer. Originally I was going to dish out about $100+ for a JG BAR-10. From what I can see, the JG BAR-10 is the most widely preferred for custom-made bolt-action rifles. However, I have no idea about the Well. I know that the AGM version has a few problems (especially regarding longevity). What about the Well though? Is it a suitable candidate for custom-build work, or should I stick with the JG?

Both the BAR-10 and the Well MB03 will break down on you and you'll need to upgrade. The Well MB03 and AGM VSR-10 both need to be modified to be upgraded that parts are slightly smaller then the Mauri parts. Not sure exactly how you get them to fit. The JG BAR-10 can accept all upgrades easily with no modifications. Its internals are also better then the Well MB03 and will out last it. I'd suggest you buy the BAR-10. I've seen used ones for $50.

DON'T DO IT! The well is a pile of poop. Actually, it's alright. But it's not even close to as good as JG. A friend bought the JG and I bought the Well at the same time. We had wanted to have some bolt action games and I just went for the cheaper one where he wanted to upgrade at some point. The Wells parts are much thinner, cheaper plastic. It doesn't take the upgrade parts as easy. It's pretty eh overall. I would go with the JG.

I would second and third the comments of SGTTOM and Haireyapple. The JG BAR is significantly better than the other 2 or 3 clones I have tried and while still not perfect (no airsoft gun is) It is way, way, better, for not a lot of extra money.
