The AGM MP40 seems to be a pretty popular Axis weapon around these parts. I have skirmished with it alot against "Modern" guns and I can definitely hold my own against them.
My MP40 consistently fires at 330FPS. I am wondering what I can do to increase the range on my MP40.
I've googled and researched quite a bit and I have only found that the following are beneficial for reliability and as a starting platform to upgrading performance:
Upgrading the spring guide to a metal spring guide Upgrading to metal bushings Upgrading to better metal gears
I am highly satisfied with the ROF in its current state
I am wanting only mods that will be reliable and wont break the gun.

THe things that will help you with range would be the hopup and a tightbore. I don't know much about MP40s though... don't know what barrel length is or if the hopup bucking is the same as others.

Inner barrel length is around 9.5 inches.
I would suggest upgrading the 6mm plastic bushings to metal bushings.
A spring guide with a bearing would bump up the fps slightly.
You can install a M120 / M130 spring, without replacing the gears, but you will have to switch to a high output battery that can supply 30-35 amps.
Switching to .25 weight bb's will increase accuracy and boost your range by 5+ feet, however lower the fps.

Tightbores and hop-up bucking are not viable options for improving the FPS/range on the MP-40 AGM because they can't be changed without heavy modification. You are stuck with stock in those areas. The spring would be the quick and dirty upgrade. Like biged (If he's BIG why the little "b"?) said, the M120 spring with a new spring guide and metal bushings would be the way to go. Get a good Intellect 8.4V (so that you don't have ROF issues that sound like a PPsh-41) battery too.

Thanks for all the help and I am sure others in the future will find this to be useful too!
I already have an intellect 8.4v which I use in the mp40. I will be ordering and installing the M120, spring guide and metal bushings soon.

You can put in an Element H-nub or SCS to improve accuracy. It's about the only thing you can improve on the hop.

I have went online and located all of the parts you guys mentioned plus did a little research to try and narrow down the right parts.
The spring guide, spring and bushings that I think will work for my MP40 are;
- G&P 6mm Steel Oil Groove Precision Bushing - Guarder Ball Bearing Spring Guide for Ver.III - MATRIX Angel A.E.G. Upgrade Spring - M120 Spring(390~420 F.P.S.)
According to the website they say that a 120 spring can cause problems if you don't invest in other upgrades. Will the bushings and spring guide be enough on this MP40? (I know you all said that 120 with the above mentioned upgrades will work fine but not sure if all springs are created equal)
Thanks alot guys, just wanting to make sure I don't buy a part that wont fit.

My personal opinion is that the AGM-MP40 is perfect stock. It's an SMG, these weren't meant to be long range or super accurate. Out of the box they meet this role very well. When you start upgrading ROF, Range or accuracy on these guns (Thompsons too) it starts throwing off the balance of weapons we have available. If you want longer range and accuracy, get a springer rifle. If you want a high ROF and range, get an MP44. If you want high capacity fire suppression get an MG. I understand that most people don't have a budget to equip themselves with every type of weapon available, but at the end of the day this is a team game, and you and your unit should be paying some attention to weapons composition when you put a squad on the field.
I like the fact that the MP40 is hard to trick out, because quite frankly, if everybody had a tricked out SMG, nobody would use anything else. And at most events there is an overabundance of SMGs anyway.

Agreed Garrick, It works fine but there are no WW2 events in my area. I am only interested in playing airsoft with the MP40 so I would like to upgrade it to just be a little more on par with all of the upgraded M16s/M4/MP5/other "modern guns" I am facing. If I ever get a chance to attend a WW2 airsoft association game I would have no problems dropping the stock spring back in.

Am I a little late to the party? You could look into the tanio koba TWIST barrel. It's optimized for 330fps. Suppose to be real cool.

Thanks for the info on the TK Barrel, Megabutter. I haven't purchased any of the new parts yet so this could be a viable option for me. However, after research it seems that its sort of difficult to change a barrel on the MP40. I will see what happens, going to search around some more.

Much like that of the OP, my Mp40 shoots ~340 after taking it into the shop to get the gearbox cleaned and re-shimmed and a general cleanup/look-over from a guy who really knew what he was doing. I find that it gets adequate range for what is *in theory* an SMG.

Yea I got one for Easter. Shoots better then I expected with 20grams. Guessing the accuracy and range will go up once I clean the gearbox, start using 23 or 25grams, and adjust the hop up. But frankly I am very satisfied with it the way it is now.

Agreed, that is why I didn't instantly buy the performance upgrades for the gun, just the reliability mods for it thus far. It shoots great stock and haven't had problems with it using it heavily for 5 months.
If I can get some more range out of it by dropping in a TK Barrel then I am all for it.
I've found a modification by a guy named Taffy who has been able to replace the barrels somewhat easily. When I do decide to do the change I'll keep this thread updated.

A tightbore barrel will suffice. maybe 6.04-6.01mm inner diameter. And an element H-nub or Shredder SCS will improve your range and accuracy dramatically. Tanio Koba twist barrels are overrated and cost more.
