My private purchase beret, from before I served: The beret I was issued: Both are Royal Danish Army. Green is for support troops - I went through basic training with the artillery, which is the same basic training they get at the infantry. Everyone is a rifleman first, eh? The canon inside the crown is of course signified the Danish Artillery Regiment, where white felt signifies that it's a training unit - the deployable unit is the same crown on red felt.

What's the SF flash and beret doing on a maroon Airborne beret?? I own 3 that I have worn on duty. My last black one that I wore while in a crappy signal unit, and 2 dark blue ones I wore while in the 501st and 502nd Inf. in the 101st Abn. in the 80's.

Nice thread, made me realise i've got a fair few myself. Firstly my own that i wore as a STAFFORD (finest line infantry regiment in the British Army...scores of VCs and nearly 300 years service to the Crown) Then a 44 dated GS cap beret of the Yorks and Lancs regiment Soviet airborne beret i picked up while travelling around the Czech republic. British WWII airborne beret (again my old regiment) And the Army Air Corps glider pilot regiment that took us on the one way trip to Arnhem and Sicily Army commando '2 commando' beret of the Special Service brigade, this is an officers beret as it has the SS astride the dagger in cloth, ORs simply had a silver dagger. US SF beret (worn for an Airsoft International nam event where we played SF) And lastly a Royal Tank Regiment beret (these were also worn by the sas late in wwii so they coudl avoid being shot as 'commandos' and claim to be jeep recce for a larger armoured formation. And herers me in mine when i was a sprightly young officer candidate with the army... (note the 'censor' is electrical tape and a joke as we were all messing about. The two guys behind me wear dark blue berets like mine but the cap badge of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (the guy on the left is Price but I cant remeber for the life of me the other guy... the guy far right is O'Hallaran who used to be a para but transfered to the Royal Green Jackets, his beret is actually very dark 'rifle' green.. i've got a Light Infantry rifle green beret somehwere but no idea where its gone.)

What's the SF flash and beret doing on a maroon Airborne beret??. Because my friend was in a support unit assigned to a SF unit , he was not SF qualified yet so he wore the Maroon beret instead of the Green one.
