This is a subset of warmovies were a classic battle is fought,
My top are
The Alamo(2004 version) People thought it was boring, and to hisoricaly accurat, but I love it, fantastic sound and the battle of the alamo is the best battle in any movie.
Waterloo, yes it has it's stilly parts, the effects are 50s style, but seeing 20 000 french march in column is a great sight, Rod Steiger is prety good as Napoleon, but Christopher Plummer is pefect as Wellington, the perfect upperclass general, and Jack Hawkins as Picton is also very cool.
Gettysburg, great sweeping battles, a 4 hours 15 minute long movie, full of great actors, Berenger as the realistic Longstreet, but most of all Richard Jordan as Armistead, he should have gotten an oscar for that preformance, one of my very favorites ever.
Zulu Dawn, while Zulu is basicly a British western, zulu dawn is a propper war movie, seeing 10 000 zulu warriors sweep across the south african planes is quite stunning. Some propp faults in the movie, and later research have shown some parts of the movie to be false, but at the time it was quite close to what we thought had happend.

BAD acting, even worse looking reenactors, bad special effects, and cheesy music! You thought Berenger was good as Longstreet?? That HAT! That bad beard! lol! Lots of overacting and pontificating.. And the ACW is my all time favorite period too! MAYBE if it was done today with better effects, and LESS bad reenactors,it would be better...

BEST battlefield movie ever by far is "Theirs Is The Glory - Men Of Arnhem" Filmed using real German vehicles and i am talking Tigers , Stugs , Hetzer , Halftracks , Panther. Real British veterans and equipment. Filmed on location in Arnhem.
NO OTHER MOVIE IS AS REALISTIC AS THIS MOVIE, HANDS DOWN.

Empire Strikes Back: Battle for Hoth was absolutely THE best. It was exactly as I remember it! I can still smell they hydrolic fluid leaking from the AT-AT's. Some liberties were taken. Luke Skywalker wasn't even there he was on an adjacent moon neck deep in some wookie poon and drunk off his ass but other than that it was spot on.
