Welcome aboard..Ignore Bob he's grumpy with everyone.

Ignore Bob he's grumpy with everyone. >> Only when people fail to use simple common sense. It's really not that difficult to find what you need on the internet. BOOKS are an amazing research tool as well,I own many and they've answered many a question through the years..
I'm all about helping people get a quality impression, but you need to do some of your own legwork.

We could all balance ourselves with a more helpful attitude..myself included. Books are great but say you are new and excited and want some direction? I wouldn't be too excited after being bitched at dude is all I am saying. Some questions may seem stupid or repetative but we should try and remember we were all new once and excited and could use a mentor. Again myself included in this.

hey guys I'm new I'm wondering wHether to go British or American If you're trying to decide what to go with, don't ask us, popular vote of the masses isn't a good reason to join this hobby. You need to find your own reason for portraying people of the past. Do remember though that there are seemingly more US reenactors, and it would be easier to find a unit if you were US (if you're even in America...). We do enjoy giving counsel though.

Google is all good for actually finding suppliers, but it's far more sensible to come to a forum or two and ask which ones are actually recommended. I really don't get why people get the sandy vag effect from seeing new people in a hobby asking for recommended suppliers. Google doesn't tell you if the product is any good. Ignore stupid posts, Ryan, and always be prepared to ask questions.

I would go American if I were you, american supplies/uniforms are cheaper. and if you live in the US there are probably more US units, but if you live in England i would go for a british impression.

What if he lives in Scotland, Ireland or Wales... England and Britain are *not* interchangable guys.. just as Florida doesnt equal "All of The United States of America". It's not difficult to get your head round really, sorry if that sounds pedantic but it is *really* annoying they keep getting switched around. For what it's worth I'd do a British impression (note there hasn't been an 'English Army' since 1707 and the 'act of union') as from a Limey lurkers POV it does seem on here sometimes that across the pond 'Allied' actually just means 'American' and scant regard is paid towards the *millions* of ALLIED servicemen who fought in WWII be they English, Irish, Welsh, Scots (note they all come under the armed forces of BRITAIN ) Polish, French, Dutch, Indian, Belgian, Canadian, Australian, New Zealander etc etc etc All those men made as much of a contribution (and some for twice as long!) to defeating Nazism as part of an ALLIED effort and it seems a shame no on really seems to give a fig. Why not do a Canadian impression? Canadian post war battledress shouldnt be that hard to get in the states there *must* be some surplus shops in Canada that stock kit and will ship to you.... And regardless What Price Glory do some of the best repro Commonwealth/British kit and at *very* good prices and they are based in the USA so getting hold of the stuff shouldn't be too much of an issue. Sorry if thats a bit ranty guys I just think it's in credibly important to remember there was a war going on *before* 1942 and that a lot of men of myriad nationalities gave their lives to even allow us to be in a position to launch Overlord in 44. Think for a second that without the scores of Polish pilots who flew mission after mission with no rest during the Battle of Britain the RAF would quite possibly have been overun....

At the Front.com for American needs, but British you are going to have a bit of a tough time. Try to check out your local surplus if you have any, sometimes you'll strike gold there.
