The Korean war models as far as I know are basically the same as far a shape. The only differences were the material it was made from, the swivel bales instead of fixed (Though late-war WWII did have swivel bales) and the placement of the seam to the rear as opposed to the front on the rim (Though again late war WWII M-1's also had rear seams.)
All said and done yes it can/ will work. If you throw a net on it no one but someone looking directly at the rim or inside your helmet will know the difference. (Besides, you're supposed to be looking at the Germans, not the guy next to you's helmet!)

Totez,
Such a great point. Glad to hear it expressed. Perfection is desired not required.

Totez, Such a great point. Glad to hear it expressed. Perfection is desired not required. Indeed, i'm always happy if the outer layer looks correct from 15 - 20 ft away. Many of our group use dispatch rider shells converted to airborne helmets as a DR helmet costs £20 GBP and an airborne one about £400!

So refreshing to hear others that I greatly respect state that they are willing to compromise in order to grow the hobby. I think sometimes we dwell and focus so much on minutia with regard to perfection that we scare away many and I know for a fact that the tone and attitudes expressed often force folks who would otherwise attend WW2 airsoft events stay at home as "their kit is not quite there..." For all too many it's never quite right and they leave the hobby before they've even participated!
I'm completely adverse to the "anything goes" and "tan denotes US while grey denotes German approach" for a so called WW2 themed event but I'm likewise irritated by the stitch nazi mentality that demand period correct underwear and if you haven't spend thousands on your costume don't bother to come.
I can only tolerate so many conversations about shades of khaki and thicknesses of wool. I want to hurl BBs at the pretty darn decent outline of a bunch of Krauts instead of the perfect impression worn by the only one kitted out well enough to show up.
My afternoon rant.... I'll stop now and cut down on my coffee intake. Your Korean War vintage helmet will look fine. I'm delighted to see as many folks as possible wearing helmets. Love the ping of contact!

I would say no to that because it really looks nothing like the US model M1. Korean War helmets definately work, but that is not what this is. It is a foreign helmet based loosely off of the M1, but has a profoundly different shape. I know that everyone wants to make compromises for new guys, but c'mon...

I'd put a helmet net/cover over it while I worked on getting an authentic M-1 Helmet ... local army/navy store, eBay, garage sale, etc. With a helmet net, I'd cut out some short strips of burlap (4” x 1”) or, if I was doing a marine impression, I'd use a helmet cover. Either of these would be acceptable to help disguise your non-authentic M-1. I think it would work until you found an authentic substitute. On the other hand, I would not suggest taking that helmet to a WWII Reenactment. It might be considered a little on the Flaggrantly Wrong side for that higher level of impression. If your having trouble finding one, please let me know. My local Army Navy Store has dozens (Vietnam era) liners included. Best to you, WhiteRook PS – Shawn how’s that M-1 Carbine working out? (tjdull=whiterook) ;D

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but even a Vietnam era pot would look much better. US pots can be had for crazy cheap at Army Navy stores.
And brick, I'm sending you a PM.
-Shawn
P.S. TJ, the carbine is great!

You guys wanna hear what sucks? My first ship had about 200 of the mid 50's helmets on board for "battle ready". I think they stayed with the ship when it was decommed and sold to Taiwan. If I'd known then what I know now I would've grabbed every last one of them.
