while there are many VSR 10 clones the BAR 10 is by far the most well know. its excellent performance makes it a perfect base for making pretty much any other bolt action rifle. however it has become rather scarce, and while there are many alternative VSR 10 clones, and of course the VSR 10, some are skiddish about jumping in and buying one.
hopefully some members who have experience and knowledge of these other rifles can fill some of us in(myself included) as to which rifles are a go and a no go.
i have a AGM MP001 and a UTG master whatever. neither of which IMO are good enough for a Mauser conversion.
other rifles that look suitable include
HGA-231W
well MB03
and MB07
tsd sd700

From my experience, WELL produces less-than-quality airsoft replicas, however I have had no direct experience with their VSR clone.

Having done conversions using quite a variety of base VSR clones you are absolutley correct about the MP001 and UTG. Both are actually decent guns for the money (They are both really inexpensive at well under 100.00) But have soime durability and performance issues that make then ill suted for the time and effort needed for a decent conversion. The TSD 700 was not bad and in my opinion would do in a pinch.
I'm tempted to try some of the others but while the Bar 10 is occassionally hard to find (especially in the basic no tripod and no scope variations) It is worth the hassle in my opinion.
I am building three Springfields an SMLE and a VZ 75 carbine using them right now.

I was just about to buy an AGM VSR 10 for $55 at Evike. The JG BAR 10 is available at the Airsoft Mega store for $100. I think I'll get it instead. Best to you, whiterook |

The $100.00 price at Mega store is a great deal. I just bought 5 of them there thanks to the tip from SGTTOM. They shipped very quickly and I've already started in on the conversion projects I have planned.

The Well is eh. It works alright, but not like a BAR 10 and not even close to a VSR.

I bought a broken AGM VSR-10 for spare parts and they weren't compatible with the BAR-10 so that probably means they would take upgrades. It also just looked like a much less quality rifle then the BAR-10. |

Does anyone here know about the TSD sd700? I am doing a vz24 conversion and need inner parts. I found one at $51 on Amazon and was considering purchasing it for the internals

The TSD 700 though not as nice as the BAR 10 and not fully compatible with all Marui VSR upgrades is a decent enough base rifle. Much much nicer than the AGM Mp001 For $51.00 you really can't go terribly wrong! Hell buy two in case one breaks! It would be fun to have a springer game with just bolt action rifles and perhaps one full auto per team
