I,ve been working on this for a few months. I'm likely to use a v-3 gearbox, m-249 inside barrel, m-249 hopup. The pistol grip is out of scale, but I will be changing it with the gear box install. This will be one gun you wont be afraid to drop or abuse during a skirmish. I'm gonna make a few just for sh--ts and giggles. s1141.photobucket.com/albums/n589/panzerkinder/Panzerkinder.

Nice! I'm drawing up plans for a build myself. Would you mind sharing the blueprints for putting the gearbox in?

Very nice fabrication, are you using a form of sheet metal or are you just fitting pre-fabricated parts with real steel desings? Regardless, everything came out great and after you paint the stock shes good to go.

Thanks for the compliments,The dimensions came from RPB plans for their stamped kit they sell. I drew it up in my autocad and cut the parts on my plasma table. The barrel jacket is 4 pieces bent on the brake then welded together. The receiver was bent from one piece, with the top welded on. I,m not happy with the top cover and will bend up a new one.The square to round transition at the muzzle was made from many little pieces welded together. It was a pain in the butt!! I wouldn't hesitate to abuse this gun in the field, as it is in 12 ga. Every other mg 42 that I have seen out there looks fragile and very expensive and hard to replace. I think this will be a cheap alternative.

13 year old as stated in his post he hasn't started rigging the airsoft internals or setting up the functional aspects. What he ends up with FPS will entirely depend on what he chooses to use. He's doing a great job on the xternals but I suspect he will run into the usual challenges when he actually attempts to make it functional but based on his work so far I'm betting it will be superb.

Ah yes, internals my dear boy are the heart of the weapon and all its glory or in some cases there failure. Looking at the design of the MG42 I think you have one of two very logical ways to approach this issue, Use a CYMA G36 model and get the double drum to get an MG looking similar to this: Pros: Very large feed mechanism and reliable, If modified so that there was only one Half of the saddle(A single drum) It would perfectly replicate that of an Mg's if painted the style of green they used Cons: It is technical inaccurate to have a double drum mag because it was only used with the MG34 and MG15. Also modifying could end up not working so you might want to purchase a mag or schematics to mess around with it prior to the actual purchasing of the internals However, the second approach is to Use a P90 unit. This could give you the belt-fed look of the gun: Pros: It would address this concern as well as any trigger problems because the grip is totally irrelevant because the Mag is on top. Cons: The mag is not designed for a support role so you would probably only have like 300 rounds or so at most. HOWEVER, these mags cud be carried in bulk and it would almost give a more realistic feel to the gun. Ultimately, it is up to you but if it were me, I would choose between one of these. They would give you the best results in my eyes.

Fantastic!
I asume with use of a Ver. Gear box you may need to rework the grip area to encase the motor assembly.
Is there a link to the RPB plans?

I added the reciever dimensions to my album, and some for the barrel jacket. I don't have actual dimensions for the jacket. I did lots of scaling from many many pictures to get dimensions. Give me some time, and I will try to make a set of blueprints, and put them on my album.I don't know how to hotlink any web sites. so google BRP guns, and try one called John-Tom engine plans. I purchased some online plans for a 42 from him. They have to be printed off and used as a template. As for feeding the gun I want to use a Yougaslav 50 round basket drum with an electric winder. I saw pictures of it on the net somewhere. I'm gonna throw my PPSH- 41 pictures on here to for a few laughs. s1141.photobucket.com/albums/n589/panzerkinder/ppsh-41/

Ok, I know the John Tom plans, I just got some. The link is posted in another G2 thread on the board. ww2aa.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=7876For the hop-up you may want to consider the M249 or Sten hop as the y both feed from the left side. As a mater of fact you may want to consider the Sten gearbox because the motor is parallel and to the back of the gearbox. (It's basically a modified M14 box) Checkout the sten reviews to see what I mean.

Kalbs,
I think that would be a good gearbox. Where could I find one to buy?Or Do I have to modify an existing M-14 gearbox?

Just buy a Sten, you get the box, motor and hop-up all in one. Not an expensive AEG

I hope you can post a lot of pics about how to fit in the internals. I'm building one as well but i'm using a ver.3 (AK47) gearbox for my build. I'll be picking up the fabricated receiver by next week.

I think I will likely use a v-3 gearbox also. I will keep updating as I build. Looking forward to seeing yours. Are you using the Johntom plans?

I have the johntom plans but after building a cardboard mockup and comparing to the pics i've accumulated over research, i've concluded that his plans are slightly wrong and a little oversized. I've made adjustments to it and designed the receiver and barrel shroud to be cut and folded from one sheet of 1.5mm steel.
