I recently procured a used MP40 from a seller on Ebay. The gun is in decent condition, however, his comment that the mag was "a little loose" actually meant that the mag catch no longer holds the magazine in the gun. meaning that if the gun is jostled, the mag falls out. the magazine itself looks fine, and the magazine catch mechanism works as well, so I'm guessing the magazine catch is worn. Any ways I can do a DIY fix on this to solve my problem? Or am I stuck with a MP40 that you have to hold the magazine in to fire?

Holding on to the magazine is one of the correct ways to fire the MP40 by the way.
But back to your problem , look inside the mag well and see if the catch is worne or broken , if it is take it apart and you can make a new one , it's pretty easy if you are good at DIY.

From what I can see, it seems like it's worn, not broken. Well, I would hardly call myself "Good" at DIY, but I do know a few people-maybe I can ask them if they could help me out (for a reasonable fee). I mainly bought the gun so that I could hopefully sell it off to one of my teammates (I already have a period weapon I use for events). But of course it'd be more trouble than it's worth.

Thjis may be a stupid answer but I had a problem with mine once where the mags were dropping out. After much swearing I finally looked inside the mag well and discovered a BB logged in there that was keeping the mag from sliding all the way up and fully catching. It would hold it in place, but a little jiggling was enough for it to slip out. So you might check for dirt or accumulated crud inside the well. Funny thing was, it went in far enough to feed.

Same thing happened to me. If a stuck bb isn't the problem, try sticking some electric tape or duct tape to the magazine catch.

I had the same problem with my MP-40. The mag well on mine though had a plastic liner that came out with two screws at the top. i took this out and saw that my liner had a hole missing and was cracked. I carefully wrapped tape around the inside of the liner and it works with no jiggling now.
