hey guys, i thought id just show you my thompson aging process i did. it has a real wood kit restained with acrilic paint. getting the ACM paint off the wood was a pain and still shows up orange in some spots. the MADE IN CHINA trademark i simply scratched off with a screwdriver a while back. paint on the metal was worn down more on the edges but some on the flat parts because it makes the finish shiner, almost like bluing. also the trade marks are faded with steel wool for the effect as well. pictures: img543.imageshack.us/i/dsc00435s.jpg/scroll through 'em as you like! thanks

i just took some fine steel wool and lightly buffed the paint slightly off to make it shiney. the corners i rubbed it in a bit more to show some of the bare metal. not too hard, and doesnt take long either (i followed guinness's tutorial).

I really like that look! Bravo!
I've been debating on weather or not to do it on mine, I think I will since I put on my new wood kit too. That dark stock color you have is fantastic as well.
Any reason you chose to use paint instead of stain?

well, i would normally use stain. however i thought id try something new. and, also partly because stain wouldnt soak into the wood kit i have (ACM wood kit, the one with the crappy orange paint) i ended up very pleased with the "war horse" look it radiates now, and is defiantly more impressive than your average thompson out there. id recommend this to anyone. oh, and its worth mentioning the color paint i used was black, however i would think brown, black, or both mixed would look good as well. just follow guinness's tutorial.
