I like it. It will be neat to see how it looks all blackened. As far as the auto trigger goes, if you can't figure out how to make it feed all the time when the trigger is pressed (only works well if the feed rate is equal to the shooting rate or else either it doesn't keep up or you start overwinding), then you could just go with a button to control the feeding. One hand would need to periodically hit that button. Kinda lame but it works once you get used to it. The feed spring does look very long. Mine feeds in sideways into the gun and then down through the tray (drill a hole here if you need to) and then up and into the hop-up. In other words you hardly see it and it is protected by the receiver. it would shorten it about a 1/3 or more I'm guessing, but the big advantage is that it would be not seen. That's a big bummer about the bipod. Get the cutting disk out and cut that weld. Astonishing though overall and I'll bet when you get the little kinks worked out a very nasty presence on the field. Nice work.

Ersatzjack - Thanks! About the misfeeding, it's a buch of problems really. The feeding spring i'm using has a kink in it, causing occasional bb stopage. The feed spring is also very long so it only fires a few rounds before i have to wind via the pressure switch on the drum. The sound activation isn't working as well as id'd like. Maybe i could secure the mic closer to the gearbox. I'll try replacing the kinked feed spring first, i guess and work from there. It's done! To summarize..... *This was based on greatly modified MG42 plans from john-tom.com *Receiver, barrel shroud and top cover fabricated out of 2mm rolled sheet steel *Grip stick was fabricated out of layered laser-cut 10mm and 1mm sheet steel. It is also larger than realsteel to accommodate the motor *Stock is wood, grip panels are layered sintra board *some external details (top cover latch, barrel door handle, trunion, charging handle rail) were made out of PVC * Real steel parts: Bipod, charging handle, iron sights, drum mag *Internals: Version 3 Gearbox Stock JG gearset PDI210 spring TU Spring guide w/bearings 7mm steel bushings JG Blue Motor Stock nozzle Type0 (closed) cylinder Madbull 650mm 6.03id barrel Stock AK hop *Drum mag internals: M4 C mag, Sound and pressure switch activated * FPS: 480 with 0.2g bbs * It's HEAVY: 17.5lbs or around 7kg with bbs Some things i would have done differently.... 1) Use a Version 6 (P90/Thompson) gearbox and P90 hop chamber instead : Motor angle is closer to RS and P90 hop is top loading 2) Have the receiver powder coated before gluing/riveting the plastic parts.

It has to be my favorite gun of all time. Did you say 480-FPS? Wow! That's gonna draw criticism, but I like it. Just have to have fire discipline so you don't hit someone too many times. Otherwise you'll have a fight on your hands. But it is supposed to be scary now isn't it? With your announced performance it certainly is. That would be an excellent vehicle gun. Keep it out of anti-tank range and it wouldn't be so heavy on a mount. Great work. I'm drooling and off my medication so it's got to be that MG-42. ;D

Ersatzjack - Actually, 450fps is the norm here in my country. So to be competitive, and to make up for the weight and lack of manuverability, i decided to go 480. Just to add the very real intimidation factor of the MG42. This way, lower powered submachiners will have to get creative to take out the MG nest, or maybe a well placed sniper will be able to take out who ever operates the gun. Rapture & petermartin14 - I wish i could take all the credit, but the metal fabricators did a lot of the the grunt work. I just connected the dots. I'm sure anyone with even basic metal working skills and the right tools can do this at home. I don't have the metal skills nor the tools, and i live in a small apartment.

hows the rate of fire? would you say its even close to the RPM that the real one shoots? if it was, that would be truley special. but as it is, that thing is a sexy peice of machinery! nice work!

Thanks! The ROF isn't near as fast as the real thing. But once i get it to feed flawlessly, i'll start with the monster ROF mods. Will probably have to lower spring power, get a set of high speed gears, bearing bushings, a better motor, and a powerful lipo.

Range is great. 200+++ feet. It does have 650mm tightbore barrel.

Absolutely incredible! I have drawn from your inspiration and will be doing one of my own. Except I'm cheating as I have a real 42 here to cast the parts off! How did you fasten the gearbox inside the receiver? Or was it all held in place by the trigger group?

Yup, the gearbox is basically held in place by the grip stick. The real grip stick is thinner than mine so you'll have to extend the grip mounting to fit the motor i think.

Yeah I think that might be the case. I also have a V6 gearbox here to make a measurement. Once I get to the safe I'll grab her out and take the calipers. You mentioned you'd use the P90 hop up. How is yours working currently? It seems that there might not be enough room for the bb feeder hose to clear the top cover.

I'm using an AK hop in mine. I think there will be enough room for the P90 hop: Check out this production pic of the Viva MG34: It uses a Ver.6 gearbox with a P90 hop.

Finally used the 42 in a game. The scenario: "Surprise Attack". US forces attack a german outpost situated on top of a hill. The twist: the outpost is only guarded by an MG42 gunner and another landser. The rest of the German Forces start inside the bunker and can only join the fight in pairs, after every one minute. The MG42 performed great. It shot like a laser, and i was using the bb flight as tracers more than the sights (like the real thing i'm guessing). It had amazing range because of the 650mm inner barrel. There were a few misfeeds, but were remedied quickly by activating the manual switch of the drum mag. But the sound activation worked well enough for the most part. I didn't get any kills with it when i was manning it but it sure was effective at keeping heads down. It was able to keep the enemy forces at bay long enough for almost all my teammates to make it out of the bunker before i got killed. The Allies still won the game with their daring though. Unfortunately, i don't have pics of the great game itself but here is a parting shot of the 42.

Thank you for sharing all this great stuff, it was inspiration for my own mg42 project. Got plans from JT too, but it is was a real headache... a lot of measurements missing. I Modificated it too and now waiting for steel parts. While i'm waiting, wondering where did you buy bipod and yugo m53 drum mag? Now there aren't any in ebay... I found it on www.robertrtg.com/ but i live in Europe (Lithuania) and as far as im concerned they don't send goods here.

Wow. This sets the standard. Allmost unreachable, but a great standard. Being vaned on Airfix, I might do it in heavy duty black plastic - when the times come.
I think a Japanese Type 96 lmg comes next, things are stirring in the far East. The Yellow Peril is arming up, getting ready for screaming and yelling and the general jumping unexpectly over barricades shouting Banzai.
But a great build. Very impressed.
