Hey guys! So I'll just give you a bit of info before I get into the meat and potatoes here.
I work for a prop company and we just got commissioned to do some replica MG42's and Enfields for an upcoming flick. We're doing rubber copies as well as HIGHLY detailed resin copies (as the scene calls for some MG42's to get shot up). We have many years experience in making copies, but this is the first I've ever tried to put a gearbox in.
Here's where the fun comes in, we own the rights to our moulds, and I have clearance to fit gearboxes in the replicas. So in essence airsoft 42's. They're all mostly plastic (well that's relative, since the plastic we use can be QUITE strong).
In this thread I'll be posting our progress pictures until completion. We are also rigging two of the 42's to use "sim-fire" and airsoft. See how that experiment goes as well.
As for the Enfield, same story. I do have a KJW M700 on loan from a friend here, and have been working on making a drop in kit for it. We'll be doing a complete stock set, muzzle with sight, and bolt handle. I have all plans laid out, it's just based on when I can get around to the whole thing. I expect just under a month for a whole prototype to come out. News of that will be coming soon too.
I'm really excited to start these projects and hopefully I can fall back on the expertise here to help tweak all the little things.
For instance I need a source for Version 6 gearboxes (M1A1 styled motorcage). Anyone know of any?
That's the biggest hurdle I have to fill right now.
I don't want to speculate what pricing will be until it's done, as I don't want to get ahead of myself. Just guaging intrest and getting some tech info here for now.
We also have been contracted for an MG34, and a Bren as well. Those are in the very far future, but still on the table.
