The iconic pup tent hasn't really changed a great deal since WW1 Two shelter halves attached with what used to be a series of buttons and later double snaps. Two poles and a series of tent stakes. WW2 era and earlier were trifod poles which are somewhat hard to find with the stacking series of six individual poles being more commonly available. By the end of the war the wood tent pegs were being phased out by metal stakes. As with everything GI early war tents were khaki while Olive drab became a popular replacement from 1944 to the end of the war. Since each GI was issued a shelter half with poles and stakes sufficient to create half the tent it is not unreasonable for sections to not match. Some early tent shelter halves did not include the full shape enclosure and would result in a pup tent with an open and exposed flap.
It's cool to see an arrangement of pup tents at events although in the field close to the front such a bivouac would be quite rare with the shelter haves used as ground cloths or expeditiously in a variety of means to provide shelter for the troops. Period correct and dated tentage can be fairly expensive but even modern pup tents look pretty good and are far more affordable.
Stalin should have known communism wouldn't work. There were red flags everywhere!"
During the Vietnam War an adapter was made to replace the tent poles that always get in the way when you are trying to get out , specially during an emergency .
