I have a KJW Colt 1911a1 that I wanted to repaint but I wanted it to look like it was blued or parkerized. I was wondering which way would be easier to replicate?

probably parkerization, as that tends to be a gray-green sort of finish. You can probably replicate parkerizing with spray paint.
As for bluing, it looks a little more imperfect so I think it would be a little harder to replicate.

Could a parkerized finish be replicated by powder coating? An old family friend used to work for Sig Sauer so he can help with my weapon customizing

it'd have to be an extremely fine, thin, and uniform finish
Parkerizing is basically applying acid to the steel and forming a thin protective coat

Thanks for the info, what should I do about the magazines? I don't like the black finish

I'm not good with stuff like this, I don't want to ruin the magazines by accident. Thank you for the help

I think the WW2 era finish would have been Parkerizing on the gun, and blueing on the mags.

I just used Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II Dark Parkerizing Gray spray paint #083-002-812 (mentioned in another recent thread) and I think it comes out really good. That would be an easy way to get a "parkerized" coating.

I think I'll try and find that, thanks!
