Cant comment on the Heer stuff, but after looking at most of their wears, most of it looks junky, but like you said it's inexpensive and for airsoft. That being said, most guys will tell you, spend the $$ up front, so you don't have to re-purchase gear again.

The only thing I can say is that while I own an M36 I know that most events prefer that Germans use M40's instead. They prefer to keep the M36 for NCO's at best. The M36 was kind of discontinued later in the war in favor of the M40's and M42's.
Your choice of wool is definitely appropriate as that is the more period accurate material used by the Axis forces.

You will find photos of M36's in use all the way til the end of the war even on enlisted men. I was surprised at how common they actually are. Just look at photos of surrendering germans at war's end and you will often find M36's in use.

Just look at photos of surrendering germans at war's end and you will often find M36's in use. This is true, I've been researching this stuff since I was in grade school. When you say most events prefer, do you mean the event organizers or the individual players on the German side?

That's why I'm probably just going to ATF for the gear, any other suggestions for the uniform? The custom stuff is waaaay out of my range but their doesn't seem to be much difference between the Sturm stuff and the Ebay imports to me. I'm also concerned with the fact that Sturm is known to run long.

May want to try hessen antique. They have a much larger selection of German stuff than ATF, with better prices.

Hessen Antique is ok but for uniforms I would avoid them, they are overpriced. Try Gavin Militaria if you want a cheaper uniform. The Gavin Military stuff is actually really nice. Better then Ant-Z or Hessen. ATF's import uniforms are decent too. Here is a link. www.gavinmilitaria.com/Most gear you can get away with buying cheaper stuff. The few things I wouldn't skimp on are boots, your canteen, and breadbag. You need decent boots as they will be taking a beating. Cheap canteens and bread bags never look right either. My suggested vendors for gear: At the Front (make great canteens) 1944 Militaria (make great canteens) Bunker Militaria Spearhead Militaria Hessen Antique You can get away with some post-war items such as your helmet, boots, and breadbag. East German Jackboots look pretty decent for the money and will last a long time. I'd also suggest you go with the M40 tunic. 1940 is early enough. I doubt you'll ever go to an event that is set before then.

Great link man! I like the Gavin stuff a lot and the price is definitely right where I'm aiming. ATF sells a full set of field gear for right around 300 bucks, so I'm probably just going to do that. They don't include the canteen though. I also want to get a great coat, I'm kind of going for the war weary front line look if that makes any sense. Nothing special, just an average front line soldier.

I am glad to hear that these were commonly in use till the end of the war as I own one of these M36's. The reason I mentioned the M40 is that most of the event organizers seem to always frown upon the M36's. Most of the event descriptions always seem to indicate "M36 tunics are acceptable if no other options available" or something to that effect, not sure why.

Huh. Thin line between milsim airsoft and reenacting for the WWII era it seems. That being said, I'm actually looking at getting an m40 tunic from Gavin (wool) as well as a set of wool trousers. They don't have the collar insignia unfortunately but I should be able to find that easily enough. I found a full set of web gear at Hessen (including canteen) for 250, so I'm going to be getting that too. Just need to find boots now..

I'd suggest you look around for East-German jackboots. Look at surplus shops and stuff. At the Front sometimes stocks them too. As far as the over coat, keep in mind you'll only be using it in the winter .

contrary to waht has been said, oI think those Y straps look great. i have the same style of clips on the end, and my ammopouches never fall off. wirst time we went out, everyone else i had brought with me, there Y straps came apart at some point, those clips which I had, never came off.
BUT I ditched my Y-Straps in favor of belt hooks, which i find more comfortable, and make you look sharper. addtionaly they have also never failed me.
In the event to decide to buy wools from hessen, note Chen from Ant Z had discontunined his historical selection of uniforms. he has decided to dedacate himself to Womens Fashon.

Well, I gotta tell you. I ordered a camo parka from Hessen and I'm really unhappy both with the quality (lack thereof) of what I've received and the lack of communication from them as far as returning it for store credit. It's a Sturm parka and it is huge and puffy as hell. I asked to be issued a store credit if I returned with which I will be purchasing this- www.hessenantique.com/German_WWII_Field_Equipment_Packages_s/831.htm, but I have not gotten any type of response. Oddly enough they did send me an email asking me to complete a survey or review or something. I should think they would want to make sure I'm happy before I do that. I'm probably going to go with either Gavin or Spearhead for my wool.

I believe Rick is in the military overseas. Also, NEVER buy a parka for under $160, they will be be commonly bad. You want a parka, go to ATF. You will pay for it, but it is worth it (especially if you got one when they wer eon sale over the winter for $150 like I did ) All my wools are from hessen, and I've had nothing but good experiences.
