I just received a Sturm parka from Hessen antique. It was on sale and I thought it would be nice on my bike rides to and from work as well as to play in. Well, it is huge, at least it seems huge, and is puffy as hell. Nothing like how it looks in the photos. Does any one have any experience with these? Should I wash it a couple of times, roll around in the mud? Does the garment eventually relax and become a little less cumbersome, or should I just return it for something else?

May be best to get it in a different size.

Not to be a message board Nazi...but I don't think this belongs in the for sale section!
But..I must also say, you probably have the parka that has "Poly" fill and not the kind that is lined, like the originals, with wool blanket sections. ATF had those on sale a year or two ago because they make you look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. There is no fix, unless you tear open the seams and remove some of the "poly"fill.

Sorry about that everyone, I thought I was in the gear and impression section I guess I would open to offers if anyone would like to buy a brand new Sturm pillow suit, especially since Hessen seems unwilling to call me back;D

I purchased the mouse grey parka and pants from SM Wholesale www.smwholesale.com/0029.html They lengthened the sleeves at no additional cost to accomodate my knuckles usually dragging on the ground. Well made, prompt shipping, personal service. My only concern is that, especially while skirmishing and with the matching pants it is far too warm, unless of course braving the windchill of riding open topped in a SK DF 251 at speed. With respect, shutze fritz

SM has some great looking stuff but I'm going to focus on getting my wool and field gear first before I spend that much on a seasonal item. I still have yet to hear anything back from Hessen regarding the return of this parka, and I've got to say I'm pretty mad about it. I had heard good things about them and am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication from them. This will likely be the last time they get my money. I think I'm going to try and remove some of the filling and see if I can get this thing looking any better.

Not gonna speak for any vendor, but I was at the FIG today, and most vendors were there, including Hessen. So I'm guessing that this last week was a busy one for them packing, traveling, setting up at FIG. I'll bet next week things will settle down.

HornetWSO, when you say most of the vendors were there; was Eric or Trish Grigsby there by any chance?
Has anyone seen, dealt with or heard from him since he disapeared owing myself and others hundreds of dollars last year?
With respect, Fritz

Hornet, that is actually good to know, I will give them a couple more days to respond before I attempt to alter the garment myself.

I am only an individual that has no affiliation with any vendor(s), nor do I know any of them personally. Sorry I'm of no help on this. I was at the FIG and saw most of the vendors that I am familiar with. Regards, HornetWSO

So Hessen finally contacted me this morning, I'm sending the parka back for a refund. For anyone in the greater Chicago area, Hessen Antique will be attending Reenactorfest in St. Charles this weekend. I plan on going.
