You can use either the version 3 with a g36 motorcage, the version 2 with a stg44 motorcage, or the version 6 with a thompson motorcage. M249 gearbox is too tall, version 7's motor cage will make it difficult to line up.

polarstar may work but i dont have the money now that i have the mg42. i was thinking an agm mp40 gearbox but the the trigger is too far back. i think an m14 gb would work if i had brackets to hold it in.

M249 gearbox is too tall, version 7's motor cage will make it difficult to line up. Probably would be best to go with one of these ^. My uncle used an AK47 gearbox on his. I think that would be a version 2.

The M14 gearbox really isn't ideal for a MG42 build for several reasons. Neither is the MP40 gearbox going to fit at all. It would be much simpler to use the gearboxes listed above. an AK gearbox would work as well but the g36 motor cage is more or less the correct angle. You can just buy a complete Ver2 or Ver3 gearbox so you don't have to butcher your stg44. Ver3 with g36 motorcage will be the most available combo. Version 3 is also one of the strongest gearbox designs. You can cut the grip to fit the motor and then add spacers to widen it. It will definitely be wider than original to be able to fit the motor. Or you can fabricate your own grip like i did. The only way to keep the grip's original width is to go polarstar.

i was thinking an agm mp40 gearbox but the the trigger is too far back. Bypass the trigger mechanism. Remove the trigger and wiring from the gearbox, and either keep it, or sell it to someone who needs a spare. Fit a MOSFET, and make a whole new trigger switch setup.
