When i do attempt to make a m1941 rifle, I dont mind if it doesnst look absolutely accurate to the real steel gun. I think the biggest limitation will be my ability to mill the details on the outside of the mock receiver.

I'd sure love to see you finally after all these years and posts placed get those M1 Garand conversions done! it really however can serve as a headsup to others that these things are far more challenging than novices to effort often realize. A Johnson would be quite doable depending on the level of infidelities and authenticity one is willing to accept. I actually have to have all my custom weapons finished externally by June 18th for a movie I am helping with. So I am without a doubt going to finish both of them very soon, externally that is. I'll get to the internals later in the summer when I have time. Right now I am using a K98 and my brother a Thompson so I have no urgent need to get the internals working though I do plan on it. The mistake I made was messing with the internals. If I had left the internals alone I could have finished it. If your going to mess with internals make sure not to disregard any of the parts. Believe me even though that little metal bit doesn't look necessary it probably is. ;D Make sure to keep it all in a safe container as it gets lost easily too. Other then that stick to working on one gun at a time. I usually start a bunch of projects. It is then hard to concentrate on only one. I still would recommend custom building. You definitely can learn a lot from it if you take your time and follow through. When i do attempt to make a m1941 rifle, I dont mind if it doesnst look absolutely accurate to the real steel gun. I think the biggest limitation will be my ability to mill the details on the outside of the mock receiver. Yea the receiver looks like it would be a tough build. It doesn't really resemble the M14 receiver at all.

great advice SGTTOM. I try to alter internals as little as possible and I believe it's the primary reason I have the luck that I do. I have now built nearly 400 custom rifles and 90% has been cosmetic only. I leave gear box work and upgrades to others who have both the skills patience and expertise to work with the guts of an airsoft gun. I do a few minor things here and now and then but my enjoyments falls with the appearance steps.
it is always a good idea to set deadlines because without then it's too easy to get off track with other distractions.

Yea no kidding. Its amazing how much you can get done with proper motivation and a deadline. I do gearbox and internal work as I don't want to pay someone else to do it. Its definitely a pain but its nice to know how to do. A lot of trial and error with any new thing you try especially when your teaching yourself.
