Well, I was firing my MP44 today. I got a bit bored and felt like trying the 40. I'm firing it full auto and I smell something odd. SMOKE! I remove the barrel/upper reciever and start firing it. It starts slow, gets fast, slows down, and starts POURING OUT SMOKE! It kept working, but I thought it was better to leave it for a while. I'm using a 9.6 v battery. Could that be the problem?
Thanks, Graham

Motor would be my first guess, see if you can borrow one from a buddy. Make sure it's the right size of course.

Obviously something is overheating. The fuse isn't blowing? Definitely sounds like a motor problem.

I agree, motor is going These MP40s have been so troublesome for me, yet the 44 is great. I guess its the type 1 gearbox

MP44 uses a type 2, and the MP40 a modified type 3 I have the opposite though, my 40 is a workhorse, 4 years strong.. While my 44... 2 years, off and on "okay" performance. Long process of working out the bugs, I'm just slow.

really? I've always heard, and sadly experienced, that the 44 is far better.

Its all about the individual weapon not so much the series. These Chinese guns are pumped out so fast that the consistency of each weapons is way off.
I bought an AGM mp40 that broke in 3 months, so I returned it for a new one and that one lasted me 3 years. Its just luck finding a good gun.
But yes sounds like a motor problem. If you have not dealt with a gearbox before I would advise not taking it apart, But if you know what your doing pull out the motor and give it a shake. if it rattles when you shake it or if you hear chunks moving when you spin the brush, one of your magnets shattered.
