im new to ww2 airsoft, (not airsoft) and was looking for kar 98 rifle, the tanaka one may be the best but WAY too expensive... and i was wondering is the Dboys one that bad...? i realize the shells are probably a pain but if i got the real wood/metal is it a good airsoft gun dispite the shell drawback...?
also, the agm MP40 i was looking at, does anyone know anything about this becuase so far i read nothing but good about it.

DBoys is not really skirmish able, I have one and love it for target practice but it is not a performer in any way. The AGM MP40 is a great CQB gun, I love mine. The only problem with it is that it lacks in range and magazines are hard to find cheap in the US.

what if you upgrade the spring on the kar98, some people talk about this.. its fairly cheap though, what does not "skirmish ready" mean, no power, range...?

If you are VERY determined and patient, the Dboys K98 is just hitting the OK mark in my books. Keeping track of the shells is the biggest pain.
I hear that the AGM MP40 is very hit or miss, 3-4 fellows including myself, love ours. While 2-3 others have nice paper weights. Mostly I hear pretty neutral to good things about theirs. Nothing some TLC can't fix most likely.
Range on mine is great, exactly what I would expect from a little SMG (~100 to ~150 feet

so the main problem is the lack of power and keeping track of the shells on the kar98? and thanks for the agm report!

What some of us have done is to convert the Dboys by replacing the receiver with one from either a BAR 10 or a snow wolf M24. I had mine done by jimmiroquai (very active on this forum) using a second hand snow wolf M24 that i got for very cheap. It is no longer a perfect replica of a Kar 98K but i get a huge fun factor out of it now. No longer any need to pick up shells. ww2airsoft-asia.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=reviews&action=display&thread=1130

Sorry, if you want a ww2 german gun, mp44 all the way. I have 2 agm 40s and one just stopped working the next day after I bought, and the other one recently started smoking a lot, so the motor died.

The mp 44 is by far the most reliable ww2 axis AEG. But if you want authenticity, its good to throw a few KAR98's into the mix.

The Dboys Kar98 has many problems. I'll go over them for ya. 1. The Shells The shells are easy to lose. They get jammed a lot. If you want a decent number of shells they get expensive. 2: Internal Quality The internals aren't very good quality. Once your trigger box wears out you can't get any replacements for it. It also fires at a very low power for a Spring rifle. Most springers shoot at about 400fps while the Dboys only shoots 320fps. 3:Upgrades There aren't any after market upgrades for the Dboys Kar98. Your only option is to customize parts which is limited. The most you can really do is get a new barrel and possibly piston. I am not sure if any after market springs will work in the Dboys. In the end I really don't suggest the Dboys K98 with all its problems. As far as decent weapons go I'd suggest the following: AGM MP40, AGM MP44, SRC MP40, custom Kar98(make one yourself or buy one on here), and the Tanaka Kar98. The AGM MP40 is often hit or miss. It may last forever it may break in a year. Either way at least it can be fixed easily. The SRC MP40 is a slightly better option though it has its problems too. Here is a page I made about the WW2 Airsoft guns available right now. wwiiairsoftreenactorsofmichigan.yolasite.com/wwii-airsoft-weapons.php

I am not sure. Check eHobby Asia. You will still have the problem of the shells being expensive. I am not sure how reliable the gas mechanism is either. I'd suggest an MP40 or MP44 over the Gad Dboys K98.
The most common German weapons are the AGM MP40 and AGM MP44. This is because they are machine guns which are popular and usually more effective then bolt actions. They are also both fairly cheap and easy to come by.

I'd love a good bolt action, but there aren't any good ones that are cheap. I may also recommend any ppsh41, I've heard good reiews of those, and I may be getting one.

Thing with the Dboys shell ejectors and the Marushin they are based aren't that the shells are expensive (they are) but they are too inconsistent, fragile, and leak like a sieve. So even if you had tons of money, you would not be able to make them fire consistently without major mods...

If i were you i would check out G&G's brand new K89 it comes with 2 mags and a sling. It doesn't eject shells and shoots about 500fps. It is powered by a Co2 cylinder located in the mag. The guns skirmish ability looks promising and the magazine capacity is 9rds. You can buy it on Ehobbyasia.com but it is sort of pricey for shipping, its on its way to the US market very soon Airsoft GI says they are going to be getting some soon.

The problem with the G&G Kar98 is the FPS isn't consistent. Its a lot better then the Dboys K98 though. I am guessing it isn't in his price range though.

ok here is a historical question, approximately how much of each german weapon was produced in the war like numbers made and gun type. Becuase i thought the kar98 was most common so i wanted an impression with a kar98, also has anybody bought schewerpunkt kar98? becuase i was looking at that.

The Kar98 was by far the most common. The schewerpunkt K98 is decent. The internals are great. The exterior isn't exactly the same proportions as the real Kar98. The receiver is thicker and somewhat different looking. I would still suggest it though.

The schewerpunckt Kar98s are built the same way I build mine, his might not look 100% (But still looks 95%) but internally it is excellent and is very reliable

It may be a bit more expensive, but it is much wiser to get something thats going to be more efficient.

If he doesn't have the money he doesn't have the money. You could attempt building your own custom weapon if your any good at that type of thing.
garnett502ndpir, not to bash custom Kar98s but even an extremely well done one doesn't even come 95% close to the real weapon. The receiver is always going to be too wide. Most customs I've seen have a lot of other flaws and inaccuracies too.
Right now customs are the most skirmish able option for a Kar98 other then maybe a Tanaka Kar98. Still you either have to spend a good amount of cash to buy one or a good amount of time making one.
