How do you customize your equipment to give it your little trade mark something? Like on my US Army loadout I sling my dog tags on my forend, or hang a cross from my MOLLE. Knowing that Germans were Lutheran, and I myself am a Protestant, I went ahead and etched "Pslam 16:8" (I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.) helmet and thinking about more things (Obviously not just to my stahlhelm). Including pocket litter (Like I have some bandages, a pocket watch, cigars and other things) what all do you do to make your kit you?

German soldiers did mark their gear so as to identify whose was whose if it all got piled up. You see this on helmets and gas mask canisters. You will find German helmets with the soldier's name painted, written, or scratched on the inside. Gas mask canisters will sometimes have serial numbers, names, or even a small white dot or stripe painted on them so that a soldier can pick them out from the rest. Der Este Zug has, I believe, an article or two on this in their gas mask canister section. One way that I like to personalize my helmet is by wiping mud all over it. This was reasonably common practice in the field as you can find many examples in photos. As time goes on it will start to wear off and produce a field grey/brown camo-like effect.

I put a Joker card on the side of my helmet (inside the net) and on the side of the garrison cap ... Also sewn a few random things onto my jacket, since me and 3 of my friends all have the same jacket, from the same company, same size, same patch, same rank.

I painted my stahlhelm tri-color, rubbed it in mud, then scraped it against the soncrete pavement. Now, theres no way to mistakle it for someone else's, lol

I made a mixture of elmer's glue, dirt and acrylic paint and put it on my stahlhelm(stuck on there like cement). Fits well with my summer HBT uniform... Russian mud everywhere!
