I wanted to see if my grandfathers (original) M1 Bayonet would fit on my M1 Garand. Well... it did, but it kind of got stuck there. Then when I was trying to find that little button to unclip it (which appearently doesn't work) my friend ripped it off, with the bayonet lug attached. Perfect This happened earlier today and I've been really busy, so I haven't had a chance to fix it but I was wondering if JB Weld might do the job? Kind of mad how I spent $400 on it yet I can name four things off the top of my head already broke

Wow, the damage no doubt can be fixed with some resin paste and sand paper and some paint but jeez wiz...did you really put a real bayonet on a resin gas assembly and expect it to hold up? If you can't patch it up, get a hold of me and I 'll see what i can do to pour another gas assembly.

Should have updated this, I fixed it... sort of... I wasn't careful when putting the paste on the gas assembly, and there's a blob of it preventing the bayonet to slide on. Nothing a little sanding can't fix. I'll get to work tonight maybe after I get back from the gym
Here's the thing, I let my friend borrow it, big mistake. I told him to let me take it off, but... "Nope, I got it" SNAP! and like any good friend would say, "Uhh... I don't know what happened"

The respect (of lack of respect) some people have for other peoples property is amazing some times isnt it?

The respect (of lack of respect) some people have for other peoples property is amazing some times isnt it? Definitly. I can understand that this was an accident, but sadly this is nothing compared to what one guy did at a vietnam reenactment to the same rifle One thing I found out the hard way, don't lend people anything (people you don't know if you can trust anyway) unless your willing to loose it

Sound advice. I lent four nam era m16s to students at recondo who flew in for the event from overseas and four aks to guys playing the opfor nva/vc. One of the m16s had a small crack which the borrower willimgly pointed out. 3 of the aks came back looking like they had been run over by cars. . Very sad but i need to just swallow hard and move on.

Wow, you'd think people would be more careful with something that was borrowed and doesn't belong to them.
After my friend "voluntered" me as a medic for a nam reenactment, I lent my M1 to someone whose rifle was jammed. A while later when I went looking for him I found it abandoned on the ground with the gas assembly broken. I still can't believe he just left it there without telling me... Funny thing is I never saw him again, must have ran away ( even though I was only 15 and he was alteast 18 ;D )

Kind of reminds me of when I used to have a pretty good friend and loaned him my rifle. It was a handmade Kentucky long rifle that I had put many hours in. The stock was carved in a basketweave pattern and had spent most of it's life hanging on my wall. He only wanted it for one week during the black powder season and I willingly lent it. It took me 5 years to get it back and then the only way I got it was to stop by his house during his divorce. His wife gave it to me. He and I never spoke again until about a month ago when we accidently ran into each other. We were cordial, but decidedly cool. The rifle was in such rough shape that I gave it to someone else to use as a shooter.
