Hello, everyone! My dad decided to buy himself a Dboys Kar98k (the wooden one). Immediately, thoughts of what I have heard about this rifle came back into my head. I forgot where exactly on this forum I saw a bunch of different information about this rifle (and I don't have the time to hunt for it) so I want to condense all of that info into one thread for everyone who wishes to upgrade their Dboys Kar98k and for future reference.
So, pretty much, would upgrading this rifle be possible? I know the spring it comes with HAS to be replaced.
I also remember seeing things about the sears breaking. What about this? ( I could use a refresher).
Would JG BAR-10 internals work in the rifle? If not, what are the best internals to replace the stock ones with? Hell, is it even possible to replace the internals? Is anything compatible?
I want to make this rifle skirmishable, the power on it now and the internals are AWFUL (The power I know because I shot it, the internals because everyone knows that).
Any and all input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help, guys.

Dboys Kar98 internals and BAR-10 internals are nothing alike. There are no Dboys Kar98 after market parts. Some parts can be fitted with some custom work.
For upgrading your best bet is too install a new tightbore barrel. The Dboys barrel is unique and an aftermarket barrel will need modification though. The Dboys barrel is also a two peice barrel which is a horrid design as it lets a lot of air leak out. The spring may be able to be upgraded possibly with an AEG spring. The problem is the sear which is cheap metal won't hold up for long. In the end I'd suggest your dad ditch the Kar98 and either convert it with BAR-10 internals or buy an AEG.

Ok, so replace the barrel to a tight bore, and change the spring. About the sears, what can be done about them? I think I have heard of people changing them, or am I wrong?
And what do you mean by "convert it with BAR-10 internals?"

And what do you mean by "convert it with BAR-10 internals?" Buy a bar-10 and hollow out the D-boys k98 stock enough so it can fit the internals of the bar-10. There's ALOT more to it than that, but that's basically what needs to be done I wouldn't suggest you do this unless your experienced with modifying guns, it took me two months to finish mine and even then it came out pretty crappy

Hmm, I see.
Has anyone ever had the problem that when the rifle is shot, there is a pause, and a second later the BB comes out and it shoots in a wild direction? I'm having this now.

The sears are special to the rifle. There are no upgraded or replacement ones available. As for your problem sounds like the wild shooting is caused by the hop up. The delay is most likely because the piston is getting stuck for some reason. A good cleaning might help.
The Dboys K98 is doomed to be a pretty useless gun. Even after upgrades it will probably break on you and even if it didn't the shells cripple it majorly.

Even if it could be upgraded with a stronger spring, improved hop up and tightbore barrel it would still be handicapped by the designed use of ejecting shells and the fact that unlike most spring powered guns the spring is cocked when pushing the bolt forward other than the more common approach where it is cocked with a rearward pull. This seems fairly minor with the current spring but with a more powerful spring pushing it cocked would be quite hard and extremely awkward when firing. Sadly the D Boys Kar 98 is an awkward design at best. Unfortunately as mentioned before your best bet is to buy a JG Bar 10 and marry the two up. (The vintage , cool looks of the Kar 98, with the functionality of the BAR 10). The bar 10 has a 30 round clip that loads from the bottom of the stock in front of the trigger housing and a hop up that slides on the top of the lower stock below the hanguard.). The conversion if done well results in an attractive replica that functions well. The project is fun and relatively easy but time consuming. For those lacking basic skills, confidence or available time the Schwerepunct conversions are a smart way to go if he has any available. Perhaps if you shipped the wood stocked D Boys he could convert it for you. there are others on this Forum who no doubt could do a great job as well but frankly most have discovered that the going market for such work doesnt adequately reward the effort required and have left the conversion business. Something I appreciate only too well.
