I thought some of you may be interested in this as there will certainly be a number of vendors in attendance. While it is not entirely WWII themed, there will obviously be a great deal of that era represented. www.militaryhistoryfest.com/Reenactor_Fest/Home.html

So Hessen finally contacted me this morning, I'm sending the parka back for a refund. For anyone in the greater Chicago area, Hessen Antique will be attending Reenactorfest in St. Charles this weekend. I plan on going.

Hornet, that is actually good to know, I will give them a couple more days to respond before I attempt to alter the garment myself.

SM has some great looking stuff but I'm going to focus on getting my wool and field gear first before I spend that much on a seasonal item. I still have yet to hear anything back from Hessen regarding the return of this parka, and I've got to say I'm pretty mad about it. I had heard good things about them and am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication from them. This will likely be the last time they get my money. I think I'm going to try and remove some of the filling and see if I can get this thing looking any better.

Not to be a message board Nazi...but I don't think this belongs in the for sale section! Sorry about that everyone, I thought I was in the gear and impression section I guess I would open to offers if anyone would like to buy a brand new Sturm pillow suit, especially since Hessen seems unwilling to call me back;D

I just received a Sturm parka from Hessen antique. It was on sale and I thought it would be nice on my bike rides to and from work as well as to play in. Well, it is huge, at least it seems huge, and is puffy as hell. Nothing like how it looks in the photos. Does any one have any experience with these? Should I wash it a couple of times, roll around in the mud? Does the garment eventually relax and become a little less cumbersome, or should I just return it for something else?

Well, I gotta tell you. I ordered a camo parka from Hessen and I'm really unhappy both with the quality (lack thereof) of what I've received and the lack of communication from them as far as returning it for store credit. It's a Sturm parka and it is huge and puffy as hell. I asked to be issued a store credit if I returned with which I will be purchasing this- www.hessenantique.com/German_WWII_Field_Equipment_Packages_s/831.htm, but I have not gotten any type of response. Oddly enough they did send me an email asking me to complete a survey or review or something. I should think they would want to make sure I'm happy before I do that. I'm probably going to go with either Gavin or Spearhead for my wool.

I ordered an SS oak parka with the intention of wearing it on bike rides, and of course using the white side at airsoft events!

Huh. Thin line between milsim airsoft and reenacting for the WWII era it seems. That being said, I'm actually looking at getting an m40 tunic from Gavin (wool) as well as a set of wool trousers. They don't have the collar insignia unfortunately but I should be able to find that easily enough. I found a full set of web gear at Hessen (including canteen) for 250, so I'm going to be getting that too. Just need to find boots now..

Great link man! I like the Gavin stuff a lot and the price is definitely right where I'm aiming. ATF sells a full set of field gear for right around 300 bucks, so I'm probably just going to do that. They don't include the canteen though. I also want to get a great coat, I'm kind of going for the war weary front line look if that makes any sense. Nothing special, just an average front line soldier.

Cant comment on the Heer stuff, but after looking at most of their wears, most of it looks junky, but like you said it's inexpensive and for airsoft. That being said, most guys will tell you, spend the $$ up front, so you don't have to re-purchase gear again. That's why I'm probably just going to ATF for the gear, any other suggestions for the uniform? The custom stuff is waaaay out of my range but their doesn't seem to be much difference between the Sturm stuff and the Ebay imports to me. I'm also concerned with the fact that Sturm is known to run long.

You will find photos of M36's in use all the way til the end of the war even on enlisted men. I was surprised at how common they actually are. Just look at photos of surrendering germans at war's end and you will often find M36's in use. This is true, I've been researching this stuff since I was in grade school. "The only thing I can say is that while I own an M36 I know that most events prefer that Germans use M40's instead. They prefer to keep the M36 for NCO's at best. The M36 was kind of discontinued later in the war in favor of the M40's and M42's." M40's could work too, but I have yet to find a tunic/trouser combo at such a price. When you say most events prefer, do you mean the event organizers or the individual players on the German side?

Sorry so many posts, I set up a login on WAA but it hasn't been activated yet. I was just re reading the game rules and realize that I have no mid caps for my stg, nor do I have any idea where I would find any since as far as I know they do not exist. What do you think the odds are of actually being able to get one of the loaners? I'm coming from Chicago and also by myself so I would hate to not be able to play, I have some other AEG's but I'd really rather use a period weapon even though I would be playing as a partisan.

Great, thanks! Semi auto is no problem. I'm a pretty seasoned player so I actually prefer semi auto and well aimed shots to blasting away at everything that moves. This will be my first ww2 event if I can make it, I've been wanting to get into it for quite some time now but ran into some hurdles in the last year. Hopefully 2012 will have better luck for me as far as putting together a ww2 impression!

I really want to come to this, I wish I would have seen the info sooner. All I have wwII is an AGM stg and a shell ejecting kar98. The AGM shoots way hot (435 fps). What kind of loaners are available and what's the cost?

I really wish I could make this. Is anyone going up from Chicago? Maybe I could help with gas for a ride?

I used mine for the first time today in an open play game. With no modifications I was really happy with the way it handled. The weight of it is actually a plus to me. Some mid caps would be nice and I definitely want to get a metal flash hider. Does anyone know of anyone making/selling them currently?

Hi guys, I live in Chicago and have never done any re-enacting or airsoft before but I am eager to try it. I love collecting militaria and started learning about this while looking for pieces to display along with my ww2 relics. I was thinking about getting a Kar98 or an mp40 to start with and perhaps build a collection from there if airsoft turns out to be something I have the time to really commit to. Is there a wide range of ages involved or is this mostly a younger crowd? How often are there matches in the Chicago area? Any tips or advice would be appreciated, thanks!!
