Cool, that's one less thing to buy then.I also learned that those tan zelts were hardly used in North Africa, mostly just splinter zelts.Getting the boots is my challenge as Hessen seems to have run out of their tropical ankle boots. Tan zelts were HJ, Org.Todt, etc. They weren't for DAK use, and most DAK just used splinter, like you said.

Another issue similar to that is the "coconut" canteens.I heard they were not as widely used in African front and few photos show them using it.Instead in was the regular issued canteen. The "coconut" canteen was used on all fronts all the way to Russia. On that note I will finish my DAK impression first then move onto late-war Heer soldat.

For late war, you can use tropical Y-straps as well, so you won't need to purchase another pair. That's what I use.

I'm doing just that. That is what I like about Heer and DAK impressions, some of the gear can be used for both impressions which = less money to spend.I am just for now excluding the tropical A-frame and instead use greatcoat straps to hold my zelt.I don't think the DAK used the frames that much anyway.Another cool fact about the DAK is that they used their gas mask cans to hold food or extra stuff since it was airtight.

A frames were actually less common overall. A way you could hold up your zelts is use two straps to hook the rolled zelt onto your D rings. But for DAK, a lot of the soldiers were attached to armored columns (most actually) so a lot would just put their extra gear on the tanks.

I'm thinking of making a pack with my zelt and wrapping the wool blanket and assault pack in it.

Good score!I always liked the packing methods of the Germans in both World Wars.In WWI they simply wrapped their zeltbahns over their greatcoats and tied them around their mess kit (looks super cool)

GJ had a certain wrap they made with their zelt that they wrapped around their body

Agreed, a vary good start. I like the added exposure effect you did with the picture.

Great start! However, a few points of constructive criticism. Firstly, ditch the field gear- you never see officers with fieldgear, besides maybe pouches and a map case. 2. get an officer belt- very rarely did officers wear Em belts.

Thanks guys! I think I'm going to try and do a enlisted loadout with basically the above but with the enlisted insignia and an M42 helmet, and then do the officers loadout like you suggest with just a pistol and a map case. I also have the MP44 mag pouches and MP44 I need to snag pics of.

Most pics I've seen of officers had private purchase boots, too, rather than the issued marching boots. Google returns mostly photos of EM's and non-coms anyways.

Here is a close up of my current profile pic. I thought I would post it here since I haven't joined the fashion show thread yet. This is my NCO Fallschirmjäger winter uniform. It was taken at our last event the Battle of Remagan Bridge. I got to spend a bit of time on the MG at this one, but unfortunatly the feeding mech in the drum broke so it didnt work for too long. while I was trying to get it working a GI shot me right on the bridge of the nose at 30 feet away and I had blood dripping down my face. Man that hurt!

My new "circa 1943 somewhere near Italy" Impression, mostly finished, just need my Reichsaddler and sholder boards (which should be in the mail today), was a little lazy and didn't use my e-tool or bayonet. I know the Wehrmacht are no where near common (if ever seen) users of Italian camo trousers, but I won't do an SS impression and I figure if down in Italy, they were around each other it's not impossible for a little gear swap . Though I wouldn't use it for reenacting. I'm on the far right. My friend next to me is starting his FJ impression, coming along nicely.

Jared,
You would not normally see an officer wearing a visor cap with their field gear in the field. Low ranking officers, Capt and below, would normally be leading from the front and therefore have a helmet.
Also, the pistol holster was normally worn on the left side for a cross draw.
Just a suggestion.
Regards, Chris

Actually, there are is a lot of research showing that units based in the southern front, especially Itay, used Italian camo pants. There are a great many photos showing Wehrmacht troops mixing tropical, HBT, and wool uniform pieces all over the southern Front.
I have yet to find any Wehrmacht troops using Italian camo tunics, but pants were quite common.
Our re-enactment unit is based on the 3rd Panzergrenadier Division which fought in Italy, so we have researched southern front uniforms a great deal.
Regards, Chris

Regards, Chris I can't find photos like that for the life of me! (After searching so long you get into legs and Call of Duty...) If you had any books or links to share, I'd greatly appreciate it! Cheers!

Some of these (Gerry ADK) seem like they belong in the Stitch Nazi thread. Our efforts for authenticity have come a long long way!
