Didn't the FJ have folding stocks on their Kar98s? would you just take the Tankna kar98 chop off the shoulder piece and put what, a U.S. folding stock? or something else.

Uh.... no? I have never seen a kar98 with a folding stock. The FJ didn't even jump with their guns at the begging... only a pistol. The guns were dropped in big cases. So it wouldn't even make sense.

They had folding stocks and shorter barrels, they weren't popular becasue of high recoil and a big muzzle flash that was easy to spot.

Doesn't tanaka make a short k98? Like, a mountain trooper version? I can see shorter barrel, I can't see folding stock.

The quote is actually:
I would say from the part that I underlined and bolded that it was maybe a prototype or a trial weapon but was never used in common number abd most probally never saw combat. If you could find some photos of it and even better photos of it deployed in combat that would be better.

Yeah, I'd agree completly with All American Dan; this was most certainly not issued. I wouldn't even bother wondering if I would look appropriate on the battlefield with this one. Really and truly, if you'd really like to strive for authenticity, I'd really consider going with either a TOP MP40 or a Tanaka Kar-98. I'd leave this "folding" Mauser alone. That's my oppinion.--Ben

I don't know, I just wanted a gun to set me apart from everyone else. The Top MP40 ha don't make me laugh those things break and become wall hangers after one outing.

Well being different isn't always great. Especially when it's inaccurate. Then they just look at you funny.

but its not inaccurate, there was a trail of the gun, I could be a soldat who is testing it.

Highly unikely but not inaccurate. Do what you want man it is your hobby and your money, and you should be able to enjoy both the way you see fit. But most here agree it is not accurate till we see proof and highly unlikely it would have seen any combat. Again pictures or actual proof of existance would be good otherwise it is kind of like Mausers Pdot 44 field cap. Fantasy

Theres proof of those, but we all know they never got to the troops. So no, don't use them.

Yeah, this pattern was only used (I think) on a particular mission, in which the SS jumped into Italy to rescue Mussilini. Believe it or not, the SS did, in fact, jump. Once again, ...........It's up to you man.--Ben

Regaurdless of it's existance, many would agree that someone who is making an impression should do so in the most historicaly accurate way. I personally don't care if there are small inaccuracies in some of our uniforms. However, if you are going to be involved in a unit, you should probably stay with the basic uniform ideas, no peadot smocks, no crazy wire stock mauser. A unit should appear unified by wearing the same looking uniforms (of course individuality can be expressed here and there, such as painting an amusing phrase on a grenade or the way you arrange your gear or somthing like that). But on the whole, I believe for morale purposes it would be better to try to appear similar to the rest of your unit, this in my experiance creates a feeling of brotherhood among those who wear the same uniform that you do, and this will make your unit much stronger when playing the game.

who said anything about units, I was just wondering if it could be done. Are you saying if everyone had a folding Kar98 it would be ok, or if a group was going to be SS FJ they could wear pdot smocks.

All I was getting at is that if it isn't accurate to the unit you are potraying you probably shouldn't do it! For the sake of realism just get a regular k98, and if you must stand out then get a g33/40 I know a few were issued to the fallschrimjager troops.

Hell if you really wanna stand out, make yourself an fg42, it would be as much trouble as all the other nonmade guns. My opinion, don't stand out. I used to want to but now I agree that suddle differences, how you put your gear, or those amusing little frases are the way to go.

Yeah; I totally agree with you guys. In my experience in "WWII Reenacting" and now "WWII Airsoft", ya' deffinitly don't wanna' stand out.........especially in appearance. One of the greatest aspects to the German Fallschirmjagers as well as the other branches of the German Warmachine, thrived a lot on "brotherhood". They were all the same. They helped one another, by pitching in their talents; this created one unique brotherhood. The only one in the squad who may have stood out at all would've been the Squad Commander. He would've carried a different weapon (possibly) and may have decided to wear the Crushed Cap. Trust me man; we've all wanted to "stand out", especially in the beginning, before our first event. Hell, I even wanted to be a "Chaplin" just to make myself known on the battlefield. It wasn't until I actually participated in an event that I sat back and realized how detrimental it was to be part of a team; part of a squad. Uniforms don't come cheap; that's for damn sure. Not to put it harsch, but if your impression is out of the ordinary, you WILL get made fun of............period. I hate having to say this, but it's true. No matter how much you hear all these guys talking about "only buy the things that look like it's correct" or even "if it looks good from 20ft. away, then it's okay to wear", all of these guys will be put to shame when a REAL reenactor shows up to the dance. In World War II reenacting and airsoft, always remember this: THE GERMAN SHOWING UP IN 'JACKBOOTS' WILL AWAYS LOOK BETTER THAN A GERMAN SHOWING UP IN 'SNEAKERS'".

Hey thanks for finding that picture. That is awsome looking. The poster says it is extremely rare. If you wanted to make one for SandG then it looks like a cool project. If you wanted to use it in the field I would think a whole squad would be testing them at once not just one FJ. Again it is your moeny and your hobby and YOU should be the one to decide how you want to enjoy both not us. A custom FG would make you stand out and be correct.
I would like to counter one thing that was said. You will not be made fun of by all groups for being out of uniform if you have made an honest effort. Some groups will make fun of you and you have to decide if those are the sort of people you want to hang out with. There is a big difference between people that show up with some homemade or slightly incorrect looking gear and those that show up in tennis shoes and jeans. You can work with those that made an honest effort because they want to do the right thing the jeans people just don't care.
As far as being put to shame. The people being put to shame have to actually feel inferior first. People showing up in all correct gear is great and are applauded but I generally don't let people talk down to me because they feel superior to me. You shouldn't either. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I converted my APS to a K98. The rest of the kit is mostly peiced together off ebay and the like over a year. I started with a plastic cushmans helmet and a second hand repro jumpsmock. I wouldn't say stuck up exactly. Reenactors are very exacting on details and there is nothing wrong with that. However at one time they were at the infant stages that WW2 airsofting is now and they did the same things and grew to be more exacting. I feel if you are more welcoming and more willing to help the people that are trying it will help grow WW2 airsoft faster. Some guys don't have the patience for that I think, or they jsut don't express it very well. At Reenactor events it is much easier to get a bit of kit on loan from someone than in the airsoft world from my understanding. People have lots of extra gear and loan or rent it out to the newbies and everyone looks just grand except for the 400lbs FJ's

Being stuck up and giving advice are way different. Advice can appear that way, especially on a forum since you can't see their whole point of view. Don't take it as people being stuck up, just trying to help.

By the way didn't you home make some of your things. Hey, I could careless if someone showed up in a uniform that is not 100% accurateas long as they are working for a good and realistic impression. It just bothers me that some people do not care about the actual history behind WWII. It was such a world changing event, it makes me mad when people spend alot of money to look accurate and make a realistic apperance, when others go out of there way to look "diffrent" and they have the money and time to make an accurate impression. So don't you dare call me stuck up, because when I started I used flectar and a french leather rig and a super 9 airsoft rifle! As time went on I developed an accurate impression that I am very proud of today! I want to represent the Axis and Allied forces as accuratly as possible that way when people see me they get a look into the past and can see what the uniforms, load outs, and weapons actualy looked like!
