actualy, my grandfathers favorite weapon he used was the M1 carbine. he never had a problem taking down an enemy. he prefered it to the M1 garand. the m4 scientificaly being a small round, has more speed than the .30 cal rifle, but has a terrible shock effect. My grandfathers favorite weapon was the MG42 because he killed over 100 russians with his.

Regardless of how it sounds thats how is happens. I have nothing against the FSU or soldiers from either side. Considering how they were just fighting to defend there country.

wow, now that is certainly something you don't see every day.
On a side note, guys in Iraq and Afghanastan are finding stg44's (along with some other old/or rare weapons) in arsenals. Sadly, almost all of them are being completely destroyed instead of sent back and preserved.

Yeah , my cousin is an M1A1 driver with the USMC , and during the fighting in Fallujah he told me that he saw STG44's taken from dead insurgents , and also one PPSH.

I wonder if there are any pics of Germans useing the BAR. I wonder if they would even consider the BAR if they had no other option. Also what was the German opinion of the BAR.

Ok, I read that in the eastern front German would ussually ditch an mp40 for a PPSh41...funny thing is that the russian soldiers would ditch their PPSh41s for Mp40s..go figure.
German also would snag late war Russian semi-auto rifles to replace their bolt actions. I'll dig up the book in which I read it and post it if necessary.

I'm going to disagree with that. Russians kept their guns. The PPsh41 was a national symbol for the Red Army in WW2. Also it was a much better gun for urban combat than the MP40. It out performs the MP40. They wouldn't want that gun.

I will second that, most Russians soldier took pride in their weapons, PPsh41 probably more then any other. I remember hearing in the war that sometimes they armed nearly all of them with PPsh41, for a little blitzkrieg of their own. Also 71 rounds vs. 32, I know what I would take.

I dont know any first hand vets that could verify the claim...I just read it in one of my books...I'll try to dig it up and post it in a few days. Update: I found that the book is actually a reference book for the GURPS roleplaying game and it's a very shot statement to the regards of "The Germans where discarding their MP40s for PPSh41s, while at the same time Russians were trying to get MP40s" That's not very precise info, so I've tried to email the author and see if he can give some sort of more data to back that up.

Its swings and roundabouts.
Soviet partisan units and scout units favoured the MP40 as its easier to procure ammo for miles behind the lines, i've dozens of pics to back this up.
The thing is the grass is always greener to the serving solider. It always seems the other guy has the better gun cos you dont see the damage that yours does, only what his can do.
My regiment fought at Arnhem and used everything from K98, mp40s, panzerfaust and MG34&42. Mainly because the RAF kept dropping our ammo behind German lines!
Consequently the germans received a ready stock of arms and ammo form the raf and used all our stuff back at us. Theres a *very* famous pic of German troops shooting up landing gliders with brens braced on packing crates.
If you read R.Kershaws 'it never snows in september' which is an account of 'market garden' from a German perspective you'll find the surprising statement once or twice that a lot of German veterans prized the Sten! Mainly because its easy to fire prone and could take the either allied or axis 9mm, one first hand account in the book is of an nco who used to tie his to his body when he slept as he knew it was that desired it would be stolen if he left it loose - incredible i know but true.
