I'm confused. Is that an air hose or BB feed line? Obviously I love the blow back action and the rate of fire. The look is quite good and the butterfly handles though not common were done in a land based .30 Cal occassionally. Very cool indeed!

2nd Bat,
the airline still needs to be re-routed to feed into the backplate, for now it just is fed through the right side plate. The bb's get fed on the other side through the feed tray into the gun.

This total build cost probably ends up just around the $1K mark, which is cheaper than I thought it would end up costing. The set of escort internals were purchased from Shoei directly. Mikkel-yes, about a year ago I built a gas powered PPsh: www.classicairsoft.net/Articles/PPSH/

1 K is a bargain given your end result which looks and appears to function quite nicely. Keep us informed on your additional tweaks and refinements. Very very impressive indeed!

its a steal, considering an mg42 is 2 grand.
Realize If you ad up the skill and R+D time he spent, it costs a hell of alot more, But that is the rule for custom guns.
The allies lack a .30, and thats why is would be awsome to have a few of these!!!!!!
I actually plan on making a .30 with asahi m60 guts, but the project has a long long way to go, and an escort .30 is much much cooler.

Scmitty,
Right now I'm having luck with a TOP box mag feeding into a length of coiled spring through the feed tray and into the gun. I need to rework where the spring tube feeds into the gun, it can get kinked and bottlenecked if not watched closely. I envision something like a U piece of copper tubing that will allow the coiled spring to keep it's shape as it goes up and over the feed tray
But the box mag seems to be able to push the BBs up the length so far... and it fits perfectly into a .30 cal ammo can. I'll be able to tell once I get it outdoors and do some prolonged testing.

I would suggest replacing the spring tube anywhere that it makes a sharp bend with something that doesn't flex. I have had good luck modifying 3/8 plumbing parts to make BB's feed through fairly sharp 90 degree bends. I am concerned that the flexible spring tubing will always be a problem if the gun is traversed sharply while the ammo box stays in one place. Keep us posted on your progress. The blowback action is awesome!!

Schmitty,
That sounds like a plan, I'll start experimenting with 3/8" copper tubing, I have a bunch for making Asahi airfed mags.
thanks

Since you are using an M2 tripod have you considered using the ammo can that mounts directly to the side of the gun? I considered using one on my A6 project but determined that it would not be period correct but it would be correct and would solve the flexing hose problem on the A4. Here is a link to the ammo can I'm talking about at Sportsman's guide www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=240056 It mounts directly to the side of the gun using that pin just below the feed tray. Also Ima (www.ima-usa.com) shows them in their catalog for $47.95 for either a 100 or 225 round belt (one is taller) although they are not on the web site. Schmitty

Scmitty,
thanks for the link and suggestion, the gears are turning in my head! May I please bother you for the item # in IMA's catalog for that 100round ammo can?
If I had to do it again, I might have tried the A6 version, as it is a bit more portable and hence more skirmishable.
thanks again,
Eric

Eric: The Ima item #'s are MU2516 for the 100 round box and MU2515 for the taller 225 round ammo box. There phone number is (908)903-1200 and these where in the late fall 2005 catalog #V55 (I just got this catalog).
I think since your M1919 is gas operated, making it an A4 on a Tripod seems like the right choice.

Hi all, Right no your heels Schmitty, I've put the finishing touches on my M1919. I ended up painting it using Alumahyde, Dark Gray Parkerizing color. It needed to cure for a week, but I think turned out looking great. Compared to other real steel parkerized parts, it matched quite closely. I put about 3000 rounds through it. I was worried about the TOP SAW mag feeding, but it ended up performing very well. There's only about 6-7 inches of coil to feed through. I also think that there's a mechanism in the box mag that lets the gears slip once the coil is full. Everyone seemd to love it, and it brought out all the WWII junkies to come have a look and test fire. Some pics in it's natural habitat: Looking downrange, waiting for the Hun to attempt a breakthrough in the Ardennes: ;D i20.photobucket.com/albums/b204/airsoftny/1919_3.jpgi20.photobucket.com/albums/b204/airsoftny/1919_exploded.jpgHires posted to my Pbase: www.pbase.com/airsoftny/m1919Hope you all enjoy! -AirsoftNY

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the setting and background for your shots. The weapon looks exceptionally nice. Between you and Schmitty the Allies have made great strides in available firepower. What source did you use for your tripod?

2nd Bat,
It was bought from DEN about 2 yrs back. You can find it on their website as: Top Machine Gun Mount Tripod M122
They sell it as a tripod for the TOP M60, and include a gooseneck pintle and t&e assembly. I bought a pintle for the 1919, it fits the tripod great, and the t&e they include fits the Browning. So it luckily works out. It's metal, and thankfully it's somewhat light.

Fabulous!!! Great pictures too. What did you end up doing for the ammo box? Did IMA still have the side mounted type? or are you using a regular .30 ammo box on the ground? If so does it feed well even when the gun is traversed to extremes? Lastly how does the magazine know when to feed BB's? Is there a button or switch you turn on before you pull the trigger? or do you have it connected to the trigger somehow?
Awesome work, I definetly prefer the look of the A4 over the A6.
