How it works: For my internals I had to lay the chamber down with the barrel on the top. ///ed///

thats pretty cool.. i made something like that a couple years ago not knowing it. Though to hold my air i used a couple beer kegs (filled to 50 PSI to be safe) i found in the garbage lol. -Cary

The MGs, Training aids at Ft Lewis made (30 plus years ago) are probably still on a shelf somewhere at TASCO or have ended up in the hands of various corporal light fingers. They also took a bunch of Daisy Red ryder type BB guns and cut off the lever action adding an M-16 pistol grip. They put an upper handle on them and a front front hand guard. At a glance they looked like M-16s without a magazine. (It would get in the way of the pistol gripped lever action) These were used for "Quick Kill" reaction, unaimed fire training. Also patrolling. I saw one on display at the Ft Lewis Military Museum which was kind of cool. The MGs were molded into resin M-60s and while somewhat hokey would be cool to have. They mounted them on Sheridan M551s (Airmobile tanks) and shot at my RECONDO students while they wore fencing masks and attemted to hit the tanks with LAW 9mm sub caliber munitions. Prior to supplying the tankers with the machine guns the students seldom missed with their LAWs and the tankers complained about having to come and get their tanks shot up. Once we got them MGs to shoot back with they had a ball and the students accuracy dropped considerably. Good training and fun to watch.
The maclashlin system is very straight forward and simple and works quite well. I thought about adding an agitator that would operate whenever you fired. It would provide a sense of recoil and keep the BBs from jamming.
I find the system works best if pronounced angles are avoided (90 degree turns for example) Also you can create a somewhat rougher surface on the top of your barrel which will create a hop up effect by virtue of the agitation vortex that occurs

The BB Coffin: 80 bb's a second. 330-380fps at 90psi. As the ROF increases so does the FPS. Holds 14,000 bb's. I added foam ramps to funnel the bb's to the sweep chamber, so it really holds about 9,000 bb's. Made from 1/8th steel. After removing all 34 bolts I can remove change modify anything inside. After initial testing. I ditched the 5 foot 5/16ths brakeline and dropped in an old AK47 barrel. I may add on another length of barrel to the end of it. I reverse mounted the barrel (backwards) and made a hop from scratch. I tried o-rings - but they rip/wear after 5 seconds of use. I tried an airsoft bucking - they last alittle longer but I now have several with HOLES in them after 15-20 seconds of use. GoodYear tractor trailer truck rubber rim liner insert to the rescue - 3/16ths thick holds up perfectly. I attatch it to the barrel with a hose clamp. (KeepItSimpleStupid) Yeah it really was that easy.. I get a beautiful bb cone about 15 feet in diameter at 160 feet. There are 34 bolts in the coffin which holds pressure to 360psi. I'm looking for a HPAV that runs up to 330psi which is my maximum line pressure. Special thanks to Gordak... I got the idea for foam ramps after seeing his MG42 box mag. ///ed///

Someone needs to make this system and sell it. Don't worry about maiking it look like anything, just a generic gun and feeder system that can be customized by the user. I would pay a couple hundred for the gun and then I could put it in any kind of body I want to conver or fab up.

You'll still need a regulator and gas source as well as the housing gun you put it into. Peiper Precision used to sell just the guts for $185.00 but they discontinued the offer.

Already done. I use a classic airsoft gas rig. ($120, regulator, gauge, hoses, fittings.) Palmers Pursuit shop LowPressure female gas stabilizer - it's a 0-300 psi regulator. It is pictured on my M2 mortar with the 20 lbs CO2 tank with a gauge. It can be used on any paintball CO2 tank, HPA / Nitron tank. I test with compressed air and then on CO2. For complete information about air rigs & fittings sign up on the classic airsoft forums. You have to sign up to gain access.www.classicairsoft.net/forum1/default.aspThis is link with the line items from McMasterCarr. www.classicairsoft.net/forum1/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5703&whichpage=1I'm routing the air line out the rear and under the gun. From there the line can go anywhere to the source. (Nylon 6mm gas line is $9 for 25 feet.) Use the ammo can holder with a small tank inside. I could also put the tank in my riggers bag like any other classic airsoft gun. I will most likely use the 20 lbs CO2 tank hidden in a bunch of sand bags. I should have some pics in a week. Use the wiki button on the top of the page. Read, read and read. www.spudfiles.com/forums/index.php?You are on your own there. Learn before making something. I made a sweepchamber not a vortex block system. ///ed///

The Coffin is in the gun. I made a trigger arm to connect the butterfly trigger to the air valve assembly. (I used an old 1/4 inch concrete form tie.) You can disengage the butterfly by lifting up and letting the trigger arm rotate down and out of the way of being depressed. It works real slick as a safety. You can re-engage it with your thumb and index finger. (I'm going to the paint the trigger arm red.) I'm testing another feed system. So I made a Vortex block out a 1.75 inch thick chunk of bullet proof lexan I got out of bank my work demo'd. It seems to feed much smoother since air is introduced from the bottom instead of the side and the chamber itself is only .75 inch hole. I have that system in the coffin for testing. I also made the fill hole bigger. It was 1/4 inch NPT, re-tapped it to 1/2 inch NPT. I also have to shorten the butterfly hinge bolt. After test firing it in the gun it got x5 times louder because of the ID of the outter barrel. The gun basicly completed. I just have finish it cosmeticly. ///ed///

Finished !!!I will most likely have to do some minor mods as I use the gun. I only had enough time to take pictures of it on the M3 tripod I made. I will post pics of it on the pedestal when I get a chance. (I should have an adaptor made for the T&E I made in a week.) Inside view. The butterfly is engaged and the gun is hot. Close up of the butterfly - disengaged - the gun is on safe. I added brass ferruls to the oak spade grips, charging handle, and carry handle. Ready to transport to the field for use. ///ed///

Total cost about $200 dollars. (?) I've lost track of time spent building it. The only things I've purchased: Brass bushings, gun blue, paint, and the air-rig (which I also use for the 60mm mortar). I could cut the time in half if I used new steel. Removing rust, paint, and old welds is time consuming but I enjoy it. ///ed///

Final pics on the pedestal out in the field. Had a thunder and lightning storm roll through just after I took these. (NAM events it ALWAYS rains.) Afterwards I drenched the whole gun, pedestal and tripod in oil to prevent rust. ///ed///

Given enough air pressure and time you probably could. What did it chrono at using the pressure he ended up going with? What PSI did he adopt for game play?

I deployed it for testing and display only. I ran it 135 psi. I held the chrono (light) under the barrel and got mixed readings (112, 244, 179, 391, 204, Err, 482, 366, 177, Err, 391, 210 basicly all over the place) because of an overcast day. Will try it again on radar chrono. Stuff I have to work on:Jams: I had several bb jams in the vortex chamber due to debris. I just have to jun an rod down the barrel and I was back in business. Debris = metal shavings, dirt, grass, lint, twigs, sawdust (I swept up bb's off the shop floor and dump them into the gun dirt and all.) I have to clean out the coffin. Flaw: When I was loading it I had bb's drop in between the valve lever and the plumbing which would not allow the valve to operate. Reloading is not a fast process. Play: The coffin can shift forward or back 3/4 on an inch. Either causing the valve to open slightly (and hiss) or not allowing the trigger system to work. (I need to put in a coffin retaining bolt.) CO2: There is soo much air rushing through the regulator, ice builds up after 30 to 60 constant seconds of firing. (1/8th thick ice - not frost) I was told to switch to 8mm air-lines or add an expansion chamber somewhere between the line and the gun. Running HPA would also stop the "big chill". ///ed///

Wow cool stuff. So clean BBs like any airsoft gun, widely varied FPS (Common with that type of system) and trigger discipline just like a real M2 a fe tweaks and adjustments and you're back in business. Hooah Keep us informed so we can be you at least vicariously!

20lbs CO2 tank. It could fire for about 30 minutes before running out of gas. It would run out of ammo way before running out of gas. I can also run 20 oz CO2 tanks but it kills a bottle in just over a minute of firing.

I believe (although I could be mistaken that I got struck by this awesome weapon at Liberty Canyon. On the final day during the morning assault on the fire base we (The NVA still alive) rushed the base with assualt ladders and I was firing at the folks in the intial trench line. They all went to ground and no one from that tier seemed to be putting fire on us. One of my soldiers immediately in line between me and the TOC suddenly went down and as he went down I got sticked across the face and torso from the direction between the front gate and TOC roughly where the 50 was last seen by me. This poor fellow initially was screening me from fire. The rounds seemd to come over the bunkers not from them. Hence I suspect I got hit either from the 50 or folks firing from your pit. We all lay there stacked up in the warm sun frankly finding a little time to relax and rest while the rest of the attack peetered out. The bunker line was quite effective in daylight as we didn't have a chance in hell of penetrating it.
