Ok I plan on making two M14 Conversions one for me one for my brother dave. This will be my first Airsoft gun(other then a few cheapo springers) and my first conversion. I am planning on buying from Air Splat. I either want to get the CYMA M14 www.airsplat.com/Itemdesc.asp?ic=ERM%2DCYMA%2DCM032W&eq=&Tp= or the AGM version. www.airsplat.com/Items/ERM-AGM-MP008-W.htm I hear the CYMA has a slightly better FPS and a slightly better wood finish and paint job then the AGM M14. So I am leaning toward buying the CYMA. For the magazine I plan on using the UTG Shotgun mag. www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-M87-SCAP-MAG.htm For the conversion I will need M1 Gas Cylinder, M1 Garand front site, Upper and Lower Handguards, and Ferules. Does this sound good? Is there anything else I will need? Do you suggest I buy the CYMA M14 or the AGM M14? thanks for any suggestion's. -sgttom

That is not the shotgun mag you need. At least it is not the one I have seen used.

Those are indeed the correct clips to use although they are branded and available under a number of different names and designations. Just be sure they are the shorter flush mounted clips for the 870 version springer shotgun, Not the thicker more readily available versions originally shown by Sgt Tom in his link.
Simple modifications will have to be made to optimize their use but that is covered thoroughly in another thread. The clips perfromed well at Jump to Destiny although as you can image 12 rounds go away in a hurry and it takes a lot of practice to get used to changing them. They also are easily lost on the field apprently since I'm short about a dozen of them as a result of my six rental guns with which each was issued 8 clips. Fortunately they're fairly inexpensive.

Make sure you get the entire gas cylinder assembly, rather than just the cylinder itself

Ok, I've searched and searched and can't find this thread on modifying a springer shotgun mag in the M14/Garand. Can someone send a link to it.

The gas assembly shown does not have the front locking lug and locking bolt which you will need. The full assembly in decent shape usually brings around 65.00 to 75.00 but sometimes are available for less. Occassionally they go for outrageous amounts but it's usually some rare configuration or early pre war variant.

I have looked around, and www.sarcoinc.com/m1g.html has all the parts you need for the conversion - as far as I can tell, they encompass: GRD109 Front Sight $10.50 GRD110 Front Sight Screw $1.25 GRD096 Gas Cylinder (Serviceable) $50.00 GRD100 Gas Cylinder Lock (Used) $12.00 GRD104 Gas Cylinder Lock Screw Late (Used) $12.50 GRD051 Handguard Walnut w/metal, new - Front & Rear Set $32.95 That makes $129.7 With these as optionals: GRD042 Buttplate Good (Used) $20.00 GRD043 Buttplate Screw Bottom (Long) $2.25 GRD044 Buttplate Screw Upper (Small) $1.50 GRD040 Handguard Spacer Front $3.50 With these, it's $156.95 --- God I'm bored when I do other peoples' math

Plus shipping. That's a great deal on the wood handguards if they are in stock and decent shape. I wonder if that is 32.95 each for the handguards? If it's for the set and the shipping is reasonable that's a great deal. Indeed that appears to be a price for the set which is a real good deal.

Fair enough. Typically when I see a real bargain they are sold out or their shipping is outrageous. When I do see a great buy I do snap them up so as to maintain a reasonable cost of inventory.
That's a great price on a set of hand guards especially if they include the hardware.

It's a good guide I would say as I step through it. Lots of pictures and clear explanations about how to convert a M14 (Marui style) into a reasonable M1 Garand. I don't think you could go wrong following it carefully.
In Canada they were unable to import my conversions so I sold kits. The kits came with all the components and my instruction manual. I suspect he built one and was nice enough to share with the world precisely how to build one. There are a few things he does somewhat differently but overall I like his approach and his instructions are well written. On the other hand there is nothing especially challenging about the conversion so it may be that he took the project on completely on his own and arrived at a very decent end result.
I've sold almost 150 of the finished rifles and I suspect at least another 100 have been built by individuals privately which is awesome. At jump to Destiny it was so cool seeing almost 20 Garands all in one place and 3 or 4 weren't built by me. Each was somewhat unique in the approach but all were very nice looking and were a great enhancement to the event.

It seems virtually everyone is. Have you got everything else ordered and assembled? The clips can be purchased after the fact so in the grand scheme they should be a low priority.
I have been told and don't know this for a fact but I was buying the clips from a wholesaler in lots of 50 and 100 and can no longer get them through him supposedly because of the earthquakes in China. In the past I have gottem them from RSOV, Evike and PrimaUSA but all seem to be out.

Yea I don't have any parts yet except for front handguards. I hope to get a CYMA M14 for my Birthday. I am going to a gunshow at the end of July and August and am watching eBay so I should have the parts soon. I hope I won't end up having to buy M14 mags

With the pace and time frame you're working with you'll be fine. Supplies of these shortened shotgun mags will loosen up and they will no doubt become abundantly available in short order.
The lack of availability is extremely problematic for me as I include three clips with each rifle sold and I am currently down to about 20 clips! Hopefully I'll be able to get replensihed with another hundred or so fairly quickly.

Update on the sarco inc. deal: I ordered exactly what was written in my last post, and ended up missing the stacking swivel & screw, the lower band & pin, and the stock ferrule assembly.

The stacking swivel is one of those parts that occassionally becomes impossible to source. I then find myself forced to resort to Ebay where in order to get one you end up paying outrageous prices and shipping for a otherwise inconsequential part. I once ended up paying $14.00 for a stacking swivel and screw (after shipping) It was rediculous. The stock ferrules can sometimes command stupid prices as well. Much better to pick them up at a gunshow or from a reputable major gun parts supplier like SARCO.
I did go ahead and order a large grouping of the handguards with hardware from SARCO as that is the best price on those components I've ever seen including at gunshows. They are unfinished but that's fine.
Sgt Tom good luck on your CYMA bids for two M14s. Let us know how they come out. The CYMA 032 is an excellent base rifle. It's my absolute favorite right now and in my opinion represents the best value by far.

Some guy offered higher and got them. There were still 6 left for sale but the guy ended the listing early for some reason.

He probably sold them all to second chance buyers. What did they end selling for (with shipping?) That Airsplat price is very very good on either the CYMA 032 or the AGM unless shipping is off or unusually high you're not going to do any better than that. (Or at least not significantly enough to mess with)

Ok I got the two CYMA M14's off eBay from airsoft_expert. I actually didn't buy it directly off eBay I did it through E-mail with paypal. They ended up costing $218.00 shipped for both. Which is the cheapest I've ever seen them.

Very good deal!!!! The CYMA 032 is an outstanding base rifle and I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it. It'll be scary dissaesmbling and cutting up the stock but don't be worried it's really a very straight forward deal.

Yea thanks for the encouragement 2nd Bat. One question have you ever messed up and ruined a rifle in the conversion process?
